‘ROMEO KE FUNDAY LAAJAWAAB’ REVIEW | 8 July, 2022

Released this week in U.P. (at Lucknow) and East Punjab, Bigshot Productions Pvt. Ltd.’s Romeo Ke Funday Laajawaab (UA) is the story of a smart and educated young man, Romi (Amit Chandpuri), who is pursuing his love interest, Julie (Sonam Verma). Bogged down by family demands, he ultimately gets entangled with local goons and a moneylender.

Amit Chandpuri has penned a very predictable story, and a screenplay full of
clichés. There is not even a hint of novelty in the drama. As a result, it fails to engage the audience. Dr. Vishal Pandey’s dialogues are dull.

Amit Chandpuri fails to impress as Romi, the young man in love. Sonam Verma is dull as Julie. Jaivrat Vajpayee (as Guddu), Ankit Pathak (as Kallu Kattewala), O.P. Verma (as Hariprasad Pandey), Reena Chaudhary (as Romi’s mother), Manohar Tiwari (as Julie’s father), Rajeev Singh Bharat, Vishal Pandey and Meena Sondhi lend routine support.

Amit Chandpuri’s direction is weak. Gavy Sidhu’s music and background score are barely passable. Lyrics (Heer, Suhail Zaidi, Dev Next Level and Amit Chandpuri) hardly merit mention. Song picturisations (by Dennis Fernandes, Kunjan Jani, Savio Barnes and Sunita Datta) are dull. Gagandeep Singh Randhawa’s cinematography is not up to the mark. Action scenes, choreographed by Dilip Kumar Mishra, are devoid of thrill. Gagandeep and Lalit’s art direction is functional. Editing (Harshit Kumar and Zafar Sultan) is loose.

On the whole, Romeo Ke Funday Laajawaab is a terribly weak fare.
