‘WHAT A KISMAT’ REVIEW | 22 March, 2024

R.G. Films and Rai Production’s What A Kismat (UA) is the story of a young man who dreams big. But he is so unlucky that he invariably falls flat on his face. There comes a stage in his life when he wins a lottery. Since his bickering wife has already decided to divorce him, a pretty and young girl falls in love with him. On his part, he doesn’t want to share his earnings with anyone. As luck would have it, he is declared dead. Not just that, an overzealous police officer also declares him a terrorist. In other words, he is being chased by his wife, the police and the media. Sadly, he doesn’t have the intelligence to tackle the obstacles. Does he survive the chase?

Mohan Azaad’s story is unexciting and insipid. His screenplay is also so routine that nothing really makes sense. The drama, therefore, never really rises above the ordinary. In fact, it often bores the viewers as it keeps stretching from one calamity to another. Dialogues, penned by Mohan Azaad, are average.

Yudhvir Dahiya is dull as Chandu. Vaishnavi Patwardhan is so-so as Aarti. Mansi Sehgal does an ordinary job as Mini. Bhavana Balsavar is alright as Param. Tiku Talsania overacts in the role of police officer Ram Prakash. Bharat Dabholkar adds little as Ghanshyam Das. Srikant Maski lends routine support as reporter Gaurav. Pankaj Kalra is okay as Jeet. Anand Mishra is ordinary as Dadaji. Ronit Agarwal (as police inspector Santokh Singh), Atul Dwivedi (as Dholuwa) and Riya Chaudhary (as cameraperson Riya) lend dull support.

Mohan Azaad’s direction is below the mark. It fails to engage the audience. Goldie’s music hardly contributes anything to the film. His lyrics are commonplace. Janvi Shah’s choreography is functional. Goldie’s background music is weak. Vilas Chavan’s camerawork is uninspiring. Vinayak Hojage’s production designing is dull. Kamesh Karna’s editing is loose.

On the whole, What A Kismat is a non-starter.
