The Supreme Court on June 9 agreed to hear actress Jacqueline Fernandez’s petition challenging the May 30 order of a trial court framing PMLA charges against her in the case relating to alleged money laundering of Rs. 200 crore by conman Sukesh Chandrashekar. The plea will be heard on June 11.
Jacqueline’s advocate told a bench of Justices P.K. Mishra and A.S. Chandurkar that there was an ex facie conflict in the judicial proceedings arising from the same set of accusations. The advocate explained that in the scheduled offence probed by the CBI, Jacqueline was cited as a witness but in the related PMLA case, she was made an accused by the Enforcement Directorate.
The actress’ advocate reiterated that she was ready to become an approver in the ED case and requested the bench for an urgent hearing as the trial may commence soon. The bench agreed to list Jacqueline’s petition for hearing on June 11.
In her special leave petition, the actress said that the CBI found no evidence to link her to the main case relating to cheating and acquiring money and arrayed her as a witness.
