Anand Pandit Motion Pictures LLP, Mahesh Bhatt, ASA Productions & Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. and Promoedge Media Pvt. Ltd.’s Haunted Echoes Of The Past (A) is a horror drama.
Dev (Mimoh Chakraborty) is crestfallen before the release of his film because its heroine, Sonali (Aradhana Sharma), had feigned a romance with him although she has a boyfriend. To get over his depression, Dev and cousin Titu (Gaurav Bajpai) go to the Maniktal Palace to spend a few days. In the palace, Dev observes strange things happening. He meets Sunehri (Chetna Pande) in a mysterious side of the palace. Soon, Dev realises that the mysterious side of the palace in stuck in time — in 1870. With the help of Yamini (Shruti Prakash), who is there at the palace for research work, Dev gathers that Sunehri, who was the princess of Maniktal, had murdered Vikrat Singh (Praneet Bhatt) in 1870. It also emerges that Dev was the king of Shasangadh in 1870 and his name was Bheeshma Pratap Singh. He was to have married Sunehri, but Vikrat Singh had not allowed the marriage to be solemnised as he loved Sunehri. On her part, Sunehri did not love Vikrat Singh. After her son’s murder, Vikrat Singh’s mother, Madara (Krutika Desai), had converted her dead son into a spirit. Sunehri had been trapped in the palace by Vikrat Singh’s spirit. How Dev frees Sunehri from the ghost of Vikrat Singh forms the climax.
Vikram Bhatt’s story may not be very convincing but it has a lot of intrigue. His screenplay keeps the audience engaged and involved. Although the chills and thrills are few, they do send shivers down the spine. Also, the twists and turns in the drama are quite engrossing. Shweta Bothra’s dialogues are alright.
Mimoh Chakraborty is okay as Dev. Chetna Pande is fair in the role of Sunehri. Shruti Prakash is alright as Yamini. Gaurav Bajpai lends ordinary support as Titu. Praneet Bhatt has his moments as Vikrat Singh. Hemant Pandey is average as Trilok. Krutika Desai makes her mark as Vikrat Singh’s mother, Mandara. Sunil Shakya is barely passable as the thanedaar. Kailash Pal (as the old man) and Aradhana Sharma (as the film’s heroine, Sonali) do as required.
Vikram Bhatt’s direction is quite good. He keeps the audience’s interest alive throughout. Prateek Walia, Nayeem-Shabir and Puneet Dixit’s music is average. Lyrics (by Vikram Bhatt, Shakeel Azmi and Sandeep Singh Sardara) are so-so. Background music is decent. Naren A. Gedia’s cinematography is of a fine standard. Abbas Ali Moghul’s action and stunt scenes offer some thrill to the masses and front-benchers. Naushad Memon’s production designing is proper. Visual effects are good for the kind of film this is. Kuldip Mehan’s editing is reasonably sharp.
On the whole, Haunted Echoes Of The Past is a fairly entertaining film.
