MOKSH TO MAYA | 26 July, 2019

Antra Creation LLP’s Moksh To Maya (A) is the story of a girl who is abused since childhood.

Moksh’s parents die when she is a little girl. She is taken away by her paternal uncle who lives with his wife and daughter. The uncle rapes her on a regular basis. When Moksh (Bidita Bag) grows up, the aunt tries to send her to satisfy the carnal desires of a man whom they owe money, but Moksh refuses to oblige.

Moksh is in love with Sidhant (Maitrik Thakkar) but Moksh’s aunt decides to get her own daughter married off to Sidhant. Soon, Moksh avenges the atrocities perpetrated on her by her uncle and aunt by burning them to death. She then calls herself Maya, and marries an old man but he turns out to be a sex-hungry beast whom she kills later.

Meanwhile, Moksh’s friend, Updesh, is tense about his sister because a boy, Yug (Sayyad Raja), has shot a video clip showing the sister and Yug in bed together. Moksh seeks revenge on Yug, on behalf of Updesh and his sister. She runs away with the money of Yug’s brother and kills Yug. Obviously, Moksh is arrested. Police inspector Ambika Singh (Meghna Malik) investigates the matter.

What happens thereafter?

Kapil Kaustabh Sharma’s story is clichéd and offers no freshness or novelty. His screenplay is weak and predictable. Even his dialogues are dull.

Bidita Bag does a truly fine job as Moksh and Maya. Meghna Malik is effective as police inspector Ambika Singh. Sayyad Raja is so-so in the role of Yug. Maitrik Thakkar is ordinary as Sidhant. Neeraj Bhardwaj (as Yug’s brother), Ehsaan Khan (as Maya’s husband), Sweta Thakore (as Yug’s sister-in-law), Muni Jha (as Moksh’s paternal uncle), Raj Premi and the others lend routine support.

Manoj Singh’s direction is very weak. Baba Jagirdar’s music is okay. Lyrics (Ahmed H. Siddiqui and Rahima A. Siddiqui) are functional. Ricky Gupta’s choreography is dull. Dharmendra Biswas’ camerawork is quite nice. Action and stunt scenes choreographed by Ramakant Mishra, are commonplace. Rajesh Bisht’s art direction is dull. Sunil B. Prasad’s editing leaves something to be desired.

On the whole, Moksh To Maya is a flop show.
