A joint team of the forest department and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials inspected actor Shah Rukh Khan’s bungalow, Mannat, at Bandstand, Bandra in Bombay on June 20 following a complaint of coastal regulation zone (CRZ) violations during renovation of the property.
The property comprises Mannat, a heritage structure, and an annexe structure, which is a multi-storey building, behind Mannat. The property is undergoing renovation, and clearances were earlier sought from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) for the same. The renovation included adding two floors to the annexe structure.
The complaint was earlier lodged with the BMC by activist Santosh Daundkar regarding the construction/renovation at Mannat.
It is said that an extension (annexe) building was made behind the heritage bungalow, Mannat, in 2005. Since at that time, the Urban Land Ceiling Act was in force, a large apartment could not have been made. To oversome this legal obstacle, approval for 12 small independent flats was taken from the BMC by the owners — Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan. However, once the approval was obtained, all the 12 small flats, which were essentially meant for mass housing under the Urban Land Ceiling Act, were merged and a super-luxury accommodation of a single family was constructed.
