Annapurna Production’s Gotya Gangster (Marathi; UA) is the story of a wannabe gangster.
Gotya (Prathamesh Parab), Bandya (Vinod Vanave) and Sayali (Aishwarya Shinde) are three friends who want to make money. Additionally, Gotya admires underworld don Chimanbhai (Dr. Mohan Agashe) and, in fact, wants to become a gangster. One day, the three friends kidnap Sayali’s grandfather (Mukund Wasule) with the aim of asking for a fat ransom amount. But their plans go awry and there’s now a fear that the three friends would be arrested. What actually happens finally?
Rajesh Pinjani’s story is silly — and that’s putting it mildly. His screenplay is quite ridiculous. The drama starts on the premise that Gotya wants to become a gangster, but he gives up his plan in the end! Even otherwise, the screenplay has been written so childishly that it irritates the viewers. Climax is terribly weak. Dialogues, also penned by Rajesh Pinjani, are poor.
Prathamesh Parab is alright as Gotya. Vinod Vanave is okay as Bandya. Aishwarya Shinde does an average job as Sayali. Mukund Wasule lends ordinary support as Sayali’s grandfather. Ashwini Giri and Shrikant Yadav provide routine support as Gotya’s parents. Ashish Warang delivers an ordinary performance as Gendyabhai. Dr. Mohan Agashe is fair in a brief role as Chimanbhai. Pravin Tarde is so-so in a tiny role as police officer Suyog Chavan. Sunil Dev (as Bandya’s father), Sanjay Kulkarni (as Chingyabhai) and Pournima Ahire (as the hawala agent and partner of Sayali’s grandfather) pass muster. Others fit the bill.
Rajesh Pinjani’s direction is very weak. Anurag Godbole and Tushar Deval’s music is below the mark. Lyrics (Anurag-Chinmay, Nikhil Palande and Ketan Thombare) are functional. Suraj Gaikwad’s song picturisations are pathetic. Anurag Godbole’s background music is nothing to shout about. Mangesh Gadekar’s camerawork is average. Siddharth Tatoskar’s art direction is hardly worth mentioning separately. Guru Patil and Mahesh Killekar’s editing leaves a lot to be desired.
On the whole, Gotya Gangster is a disaster of a film which will flop at the turnstiles.
