Rajkumar Theatres Pvt. Ltd., which owns the exclusive Telugu rights of Drishyam 3, has initiated legal proceedings to protect its intellectual property. The company, led by Sripriya Sethupathy and Rajkumar Sethupathy, has instituted a suit in the Madras high court, asserting its exclusive ownership of the Telugu remake rights of the forthcoming Malayalam feature film, starring Mohanlal, Meena and others, and directed by Jeethu Joseph.
The suit seeks a permanent injunction restraining the defendants — M.J. Antony of Aashirvad Cinemas, director Jeethu Joseph, Panorama Studios, and Pen Studios — along with their agents, employees, assignees and licensees, from infringing upon Rajkumar Theatres’ exclusive copyright by remaking, producing, or exploiting Drishyam 3 in the Telugu language anywhere in the world.
The matter came up for hearing on May 20. Representing the plaintiff, senior counsel K. Ravi presented the arguments before the bench. Upon hearing the submissions, the court issued formal notices to all the respondents, returnable within three weeks.
According to Rajkumar Theatres Pvt. Ltd., in view of the pendency of the above proceedings, any person, entity, producer, distributor, exhibitor, OTT platform, financier, or third party entering into any arrangement, agreement, assignment, licensing, or commercial understanding concerning the Telugu remake and/or Telugu exploitation rights of Drishyam 3 shall be doing so entirely at their own risk and subject to the final outcome of the aforesaid suit pending before the court.
