Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan on 15th September lambasted those giving the film industry a bad name by saying that it was full of drug addicts. Stating that they were badmouthing the very industry which fed them, the Samajwadi Party MP asked the government to stand by the entertainment industry. She added that just because of a few people, the image of the entire industry could not be tarnished. The previous day, actor and Lok Sabha member Ravi Kishan informed the House that the drug menace in Bollywood needed to be cleaned up. Reacting to Jaya Bachchan’s comments in the Upper House, BJP MP Ravi Kishan said that he was surprised at Mrs. Bachchan’s remarks against him.
Kangana Ranaut criticised Jaya Bachchan’s remarks and got personal when she asked the senior actress to reply if her comments would be the same if her daughter, Shweta, was beaten, drugged and molested like she (Kangana) herself had been, or if her son, Abhishek, was found hanging one day. BJP MP and actress Jaya Prada jumped to Ravi Kishan’s rescue when she expressed support to him and added that Jaya Bachchan was unnecessarily politicising the issue.
