The GST on sale of satellite rights is sought to be increased from 12% to 18%. The GST Council, at its 45th meeting held in Lucknow on 17th September under the chairmanship of Union finance and corporate affairs minister Nirmala Sitharaman, inter alia, made the following recommendation relating to change in GST rates relating to films:
‘Licensing services / the right to broadcast and show original films, sound recordings, radio and television programmes [to bring parity between distribution and licensing services]: from 12% to 18%’.
