The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has told the Lokayukta that it had not yet taken over a portion of land from Amitabh Bachchan’s Prateeksha bungalow plot as it did not have a contractor in place for the road-widening project. It added that it would do so in the next financial year once a road contractor was appointed for the purpose.
Congress corporator Tulip Miranda had complained to the Maharashtra Lokayukta that the BMC had failed to take over the land from the superstar’s bungalow since 2017, thereby delaying the road widening project. A hearing on the complaint was held on December 17. According to Miranda, the Lokayukta did not accept the BMC’s report but asked for a response from the additional municipal commissioner at the next hearing in January 2022.
It may be recalled that a notice was served in 2017 under section 299 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act. A fresh survey was conducted by land record officials in 2019, and the final demarcation was received in July 2021. Bachchan will have to give up 230 square metres of land, and the compound wall of his bungalow will have to be moved by 2 to 3 metres.
