T-Series Films and Dil Raju Production’s HIT – The First Case () is a suspense thriller.

Top police officer Vikram (Rajkumar Rao) is suffering from post-traumatic stress because of which he has a tiff with his girlfriend, Neha (Sanya Malhotra). Soon, Neha goes missing. Vikram is already investigating the case of another missing girl, Preeti (Rose Khan). Although Neha’s case is being handled by his arch-rival, Akshay (Jatin Goswami), Vikram unofficially also starts investigating Neha’s case. He is convinced, the two cases are inter-related. Since there are several suspects, solving the two cases is not easy. To complicate matters further, a dead body is found in such a decomposed state that it is impossible to understand whether the body is that of Preeti or Neha.

What is the truth about the disappearance of the two girls? Are they connected? Who is behind the disappearance of Preeti and of Neha? Whose dead body was it?

Dr. Sailesh Kolanu has written a fairly interesting story and screenplay which keep the audience’s interest alive. However, the last part of the drama looks so contrived that the impact of the entire drama gets completely diluted by the time it ends. The revelation of the suspense fails to thrill because the real criminals are none of those whom the viewers are led to suspect. As a result, the viewers feel cheated by the drama. What’s more, the reason for the kidnapping and the murder seems too far-fetched. The gay angle also looks forced into the drama, perhaps, to make it appear contemporary. But that angle is introduced so late in the drama that it looks like an add-on which it isn’t. Another minus point is that although there are several suspects, barely a couple of them are actually interrogated extensively, thereby giving the viewers, even before the suspense is revealed, the feeling that all the others can’t be the culprits. That’s not a very nice way of writing a suspense thriller. It is also not clear to the audience as to why police officer Rohit would shield his wife (Sapna), especially when she seemingly doesn’t love him. Girish Kohli’s dialogues are fair.

Rajkumar Rao does an excellent job. As Vikram, he makes the complex character very believable. His dialogue delivery is sometimes not clear because he speaks his dialogues very fast. Sanya Malhotra gets limited scope as Neha. She is natural. Akhil Iyer looks handsome and acts wonderfully as Rohit. Nuveksha is so-so in the role of Rohit’s wife, Sapna. Dalip Tahhil has his moments in the role of Shekhawat. Milind Gunaji lends average support as Ibrahim. Shilpa Shukla makes her mark as Sheela. Sanjay Narvekar, as Srikant Saxena, is okay in a role which hardly gives him scope. Jatin Goswami leaves a mark as Akshay. Rose Khan (as Preeti), Parnalekha Mishra Paul (as Esha), Raviraj (as Fahad), Bhairavi Sagar Raichura (as Sushmita), Noyrika Bhatheja (as Ritika), Imran Syed (as Bunty), Madhur Arora (as Anirudh), Hemraj Tiwari (as Mohan), Vinod Soni (as Laaduram), Shikha Park (as Laxmi), Dishita Sehgal (as young Preeti), Dipti Salvi (as young Sapna), Geeta Sodhi (as Saraswati), Chinmaya Madan (as Ajay), Vikas Prasad (as Chandrashekhar), Lavina Sadhwani (as Ekta), Vivan Negi (as young Vikram), Kirti Kapoor (as Geeta), Sachin Tadge (as Suryanarayana), Sandhya (as Priya), Karan Mehta (as Shiva), and the others provide average support.

Dr. Sailesh Kolanu’s direction is alright. Music (Mithoon and Manan Bhardwaj) is fair but there is not a single hit song. Lyrics (Sayeed Quadri and Manan Bhardwaj) are nice. Vijay Anil Ganguly’s choreography is functional. John Stewart Eduri’s background music is impactful. S. Manikandan’s cinematography is of a high order. Sunil Rodrigues’ action and stunts are realistic as well as thrilling. Mandar Nagaonkar’s production designing and Rishikesh Patil and Ejaz Khan’s art direction are fair. Bhamidipati Sai Gargeya Venkateswarlu’s editing is quite sharp.

On the whole, HIT – The First Case has such a weak suspense revelation that the climax mars the impact of the entire preceding drama. As such, it will not be able to salvage its position at the ticket windows.
