‘PEEPAL TREE’ REVIEW | 30 September, 2022

Released last week in Bombay and Delhi-U.P., Kanadé Films and Baithak Foundation’s Peepal Tree is the story of a family which desperately tries to protect sacred trees when the police is on a spree to cut them. The family enlists the support of a famed tree activist in its mission.

Kranti Kanadé has written a story and screenplay based on true events. The film appears to be a docu-drama which bores more than entertains, more so because it moves on one track only. Dialogues are natural.

Kranti Kanadé is fairly good. Eesha Thaker does quite well. Vinay Sharma is impressive. Vibhavari Deshpande performs ably. Pradeep Honrao is quite nice. Ajit Shidhaye lends decent support. Anuya Bhagwat is alright.

Kranti Kanadé’s direction is fair. Mandar Karanjkar’s music hardly deserves separate mention. Doron Tempert’s cinematography is okay. Editing (Suchitra Sathe) is reasonably tight.

On the whole, a well-intentioned film for some pockets and a thin section of the audience only.
