Housefull 4 may have started slow because of the pre-Diwali dullness at the box-office in general but collections shot up phenomenally on Monday (New Year’s day), after which it maintained fabulously well. The Diwali advantage was, quite understandably, more pronounced in Gujarat, U.P., Rajasthan, Bihar, C.P. Berar and C.I. The film opened with a net collection total of Rs. 16.50 crore. Collections picked up only marginally on Saturday which closed at Rs. 17 crore. There was actually a drop in collections on Sunday (Rs. 14 crore) due to Laxmi pooja and other festivities in Hindu households. In this way, the first weekend’s total was Rs. 47.50 crore. The jump in collections on Monday was extraordinary as the film collected Rs. 33.50 crore which was more than double the Friday figure. Collections on the other weekdays were: Tuesday – Rs. 24 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 16.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 13 crore. With a total of Rs. 86.75 crore during the weekdays, the first week’s total was an outstanding Rs. 134.25 crore.

Made In China started very slow, picked up on Monday but not much, and then went back to the below-average level after the festive days. It started with a net total of Rs. 0.90 crore on the first day. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 1.25 crore and Rs. 0.90 crore respectively. It, therefore, netted Rs. 3.05 crore in the first weekend. The dull total was due not only to the dull pre-Diwali period but also because of the poor reports of the film. Collections increased on Monday (Rs. 2.50 crore) and Tuesday (Rs. 1.55 crore) but came down on Wednesday (Rs. 1 crore). Collection on Thursday was Rs. 0.90 crore. Thus, by adding Rs. 5.95 crore to its kitty in the weekdays, the film took its total for the first week to Rs. 9 crore. Although made at a modest budget, the film has turned out to be a disappointment — both, in artistic as well as commercial terms.

Saand Ki Aankh showed a marked growth on New Year’s day, and the positive reports helped the film sustain all through the weekdays. Yet, the film managed an ordinary total for the first week because the first weekend’s total was poor and also because the increase in collections was not phenomenal in absolute terms. Housefull 4 proved a formidable opposition to the film. Saand Ki Aankh netted Rs. 0.48 crore on Friday. Collections more than doubled on Saturday which, therefore, closed at Rs. 1.08 crore. The figure for Sunday was Rs. 0.91 crore. After a weekend total of just Rs. 2.47 crore, collections on Monday and Tuesday were superb, relatively speaking. It collected Rs. 3.19 crore on Monday, and Rs. 2.85 crore on Tuesday. While Wednesday closed at Rs. 1.63 crore, Thursday ended at Rs. 1.54 crore. In other words, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 9.21 crore. The first week’s total, therefore, was Rs. 11.68 crore — very impressive, considering that the first day’s total was only Rs. 0.50 crore, but not too exciting because the figure per se is ordinary.

Laal Kaptaan crashed in the second week — that is, in the very few cinemas where it did run in 2nd week.

Ghost also fared poorly in the second week — of course, in the cinemas where it found playing time!

Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil (dubbed) and its English original of the same name did below-average business in the second week.

The Sky Is Pink recorded poor collections in 3rd week in the few shows it managed to get.

War collected Rs. 1.80 crore in the fourth weekend, and another Rs. 3.52 crore in the weekdays. In other words, its total for 4th week was Rs. 5.32 crore (Rs. 5.14 crore for the Hindi version; Rs. 0.18 crore for the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions). Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 314.67 crore. Breakup: Hindi version – Rs. 300.14 crore, dubbed versions – Rs. 14.53 crore.
