‘DHAMAAL 4’ OPENS WELL, LAST WEEK’S ‘ALPHA’ TANKS

Alpha did not find the acceptance one would expect a film of this scale, canvas, star cast and banner to get. After a fair opening weekend, collections dropped markedly during the weekdays. It collected Rs. 9.25 crore on the first day. Collections on Saturday and Sunday increased to Rs. 11.75 crore and Rs. 13.50 crore respectively. After a first weekend total of Rs. 34.50 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 4 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 4.30 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 3 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.60 crore. With the weekdays’ total being Rs. 13.90 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 48.40 crore.

Baby Do Die Do was dull in the first week. It had opened in select cinemas on Thursday (2nd July) when it collected Rs. 0.11 crore. It netted Rs. 2.75 crore in the first weekend (Friday to Sunday), and another Rs. 1.25 crore during the weekdays. Hence the first week closed at only Rs. 4 crore. Adding the first day’s (2nd July) collections, the total for the first 8-day week was Rs. 4.11 crore.

Nagabandham (dubbed) flopped in 1st week all over. It could net only Rs. 2 crore in the first week.

Minions & Monsters (dubbed and the original English versions) did fairly well in the first week. It opened on Thursday (2nd July), netting Rs. 0.53 crore. After that, it collected around Rs. 4.75 crore in the first weekend, and another Rs. 3.10 crore during the weekdays, taking its total for the first week (7 days) to Rs. 7.85 crore. If the 8 days are taken into account, the total for 1st week was Rs. 8.38 crore.

Welcome To The Jungle joined the Rs. 100-crore club in the second weekend. Although collections dropped by 66% in the second week, it still managed to net a little more than Rs. 30 crore. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 4.50 crore. Collections on Saturday increased to Rs. 7 crore, and further on Sunday to Rs. 9.50 crore. After a second weekend total of Rs. 21 crore, collections on the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.85 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.15 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.90 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 9.40 crore. Therefore, the total for 2nd week was Rs. 30.40 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 121.15 crore.

Cocktail 2 fell around 70% in 3rd week. The third weekend began with a net collection of Rs. 0.70 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday increased to Rs. 1.10 crore and Rs. 1.25 crore respectively. After a third weekend total of Rs. 3.05 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.45 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.55 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.35 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.35 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 1.70 crore. In this way, the total for 3rd week was Rs. 4.75 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 70.70 crore. If the block bookings of the first week (by the people associated with the film) are taken into consideration, the grand total for 3 weeks would be Rs. 82.70 crore.

Main Vaapas Aaunga continued its winning streak in the fourth week also. It netted Rs. 1.05 crore on the first day of 4th week. Collections shot up to Rs. 2 crore on Saturday and further to Rs. 2.25 crore on Sunday, taking the fourth weekend total to Rs. 5.30 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.80 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.95 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.60 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.60 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 2.95 crore. In this way, the fourth week closed at Rs. 8.25 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 59.55 crore.

Mardini (Marathi) could not do anything substantial in the first week in Maharashtra.

Ghabad-Kund (Marathi) did fairly well in the third week in Maharashtra.

Tumbadchi Manjula (Marathi) netted reasonably good collections in the fifth week in Maharashtra.
