KIRKET | 18 October, 2019

A Square Productions, Dharmaraj Films and JKM Films’ Kirket (UA) is, as the title suggests, about the game of cricket.

Kirti Azad (Kirti Azad) is a Parliamentarian from Bihar. He wants the game of cricket to flourish in the state but the BCCI does not grant permission for a cricket association of Bihar. Around that time, Kali Munda (Sonu Jha) gets permission to form a cricket association for Jharkhand.

Kirti Azad is then made an offer. If he can make a team which can win the cricket tournament, he will be allowed to form a state-level cricket association. Kirti Azad takes this as a challenge and puts together a cricket team. Ultimately, the face-off in the final match is between the Bihar and Jharkhand teams.

Does the Bihar team become the champion team? Is Bihar granted permission to form a cricket association?

Vishal Vijay Kumar’s story and screenplay are predictable and dull and drab in spite of being a sports-based drama. Every scene is clichéd and, therefore, the drama fails to elicit the participation of the audience. The viewers don’t get engaged by the film because it is not exciting enough. The dialogues, also penned by Vishal Vijay Kumar, are absolutely ordinary.

Kirti Azad is okay as Kirti Azad. Sonu Jha does quite well as Kali Munda. Vishal Tiwari (as Vishal Tiwari), Dev Singh (as Sahabuddin), Saifullah Rehmani (as Ravi), Ajay Upadhyay (as Pritom) and Jai Kumar (as Monu) lend ordinary support as members of the Bihar team. Sonam Chhabra provides average support as Mahima Deoraj. Gauri Shankar (as Siddiqui) passes muster. Others are routine.

Yogendra Singh’s direction is dull. He has not been able to make an exciting film on the game of cricket. Lahu Madhav’s music is not upto the mark. Lyrics (Rajesh Kumar and Fanindra Rao) are commonplace. Madhav Vijay’s background music doesn’t add much to the drama. Devendra Tiwari’s camerawork is functional. Tapos Ghosh’s editing ought to have been sharper.

On the whole, Kirket will not score well at the box-office because it lacks excitement and thrill.
