SRG Films International’s Love Story Deewano Ki (UA) is a love story with a difference.
Amar (Sidharth Dhawan) lives in London. He loses his girlfriend in a plane crash and sinks into depression. His sister, Vidya (Jaya Prada), takes him to a doctor who tells her that Amar has a hole in the heart. Vidya sends him to India where he starts living with Kajal (Satabdi Roy) who is the girlfriend of Amar and Vidya’s family friend, Apache Indian (himself). Amar starts falling in love with Kajal. What happens then?
Bappi Lahiri’s story is poor and the same can be said about the screenplay, penned jointly by Bappi Lahiri, Inayat Shaikh and Sunil Jha. The romance is dull while emotions are conspicuous by their absence. Even the light moments are few and far between. Naeem Aejaz’s dialogues are weak.
Sidharth Dhawan is ordinary as Amar. Satabdi Roy is okay as Kajal. Jaya Prada lends fair support as Vidya. Apache Indian plays himself well. Rajesh Puri provides a few comic moments as Kutty. Poonam Jhaver, Aroon Bakshi, Manmoujee, Sher, Zubin, Kiran Kumar (special appearance), Deepanjali (special appearance), Shweta Menon (friendly appearance) and Girish Dubey (friendly appearance) fit the bill.
Inayat Shaikh’s direction is poor. Bappi Lahiri’s music is alright. The Apache Indian song is appealing. Lyrics (Bappi Lahiri, Apache Indian, Boy George, Dr. Deepak Sneh, Anwar Sagar, Nawab Arzoo and Sunil Jha) are okay. Song picturisations (by Oscar, Habiba Rehman, Laxmi, Dinesh and Sher) are ordinary. Pappu’s art direction is functional. Sanjay Verma’s editing is okay.
On the whole, Love Story Deewano Ki is a disastrous fare.
