Cubes Entertainments’ Marco (dubbed from the Malayalam film of the same name; A) is a violent revenge drama.
Marco (Unni Mukundan) sets out to settle scores with a business tycoon’s son who has killed a member of Marco’s family. Once he has sworn revenge, Marco is unstoppable.
Haneef Adeni has written a tale of revenge and gruesome violence. The story is routine while his screenplay moves on a single track. While this is acceptable, the violence, bloodshed and gore are so stark that they can put off the women audience. Since the screenplay has no major diversions, the drama becomes monotonous after a point. Of course, the masses would like this kind of no-holds-barred action and the single track of the story. Dialogues are fair.
Unni Mukundan shines as Marco. He breathes fire in the action scenes. Yukti Thareja gets very limited scope and is okay. Kabir Duhan Singh is impactful. Rahul Dev leaves a mark. Jagadish lends able support. Anson Paul makes his presence felt. Jayaprakash has his moments. Sudev Nair is good in the role of Francis Davis. Shaji Chen is okay as Albert. Kalabhavan Shajohn is alright as Patrick. Vinayakan leaves an impression as Thomas. Riyaz Khan is adequate. Sreejith Ravi is natural. Suresh Chandra Menon, Mathew Varghese, Ajit Koshy, Abhimanyu Thilakan, Dinesh Prabhakar, Ravi Babu, Ishaan Shoukath, Arjun Nandhakumar and Lishoy do as desired.
Haneef Adeni’s direction is very good. Ravi Basrur’s music is average. His background score is very loud but creates a great impact at times. Lyrics are so-so. Song picturisations (by Rajakrishnan M.R.) are okay. Chandru Selvaraj’s cinematography is excellent. Kalai Kingson’s action and stunt scenes are stomach-churning and very raw. Sunil Das’ art direction is of a fair standard. Shameer Muhammed’s editing is sharp. Dubbing is proper.
On the whole, Marco has merits but its prospects in Hindi are bleak because of lack of awareness among the Hindi film-going audience about the film’s release and about the film itself.
Released on 20-12-’24 at Gem (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Filmastra Studios. Publicity & opening: poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak everywhere.
