Police patrolling was stepped up around Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan’s home yesterday (16th September), a day after she made a fervent appeal in the Rajya Sabha to the government to protect and support the film industry against defamatory allegations of drug abuse levelled by Kangana Ranaut and Ravi Kishan. While Jaya found a lot of support in the film industry for her comments, Kangana and social media trolls were critical of Bachchan’s comments and even abused her. Hema Malini, a BJP MP, supported Jaya Bachchan. On the other hand, BJP MP Jaya Prada criticised Jaya Bachchan. Urmila Matondkar, who spoke in favour of Jaya Bachchan, was referred to as a soft porn star by Ranaut in retaliation.
