PAY UP FOR THE MISSING TITLE SONG IN ‘FAN’, PANEL TELLS YRF | 22 February, 2020

The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has upheld an order of the Maharashtra State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (MSCDRC) directing Yash Raj Films to pay a teacher of Aurangabad a compensation of Rs. 15,000 for not showing the title song of Fan during a screening of the film at a multiplex in the city.

The petitioner, Afreen Zaidi, said, she was a school teacher and had first reached out to the district consumer forum, alleging that despite showing the title song — ‘Jabra fan’ — in the trailer, it was not shown in the film when the complainant along with her family went for the first-day screening on 15th April, 2016. She sought compensation of Rs. 58,000. The district consumer forum dismissed the plea on 22nd April, 2016. Afreen Zaidi then appealed before the MSCDRC which directed Yash Raj Films to pay the lady Rs. 15,000, including Rs. 5,000 as litigation charges. Yash Raj Films challenged the MSCDRC order before the NCDRC which ruled in favour of the complainant again.
