Nikhil Nanda Motion Pictures and Neem Tree Entertainment’s Aakhri Sawal (UA) is a story about the RSS ideology and its relevance in Indian politics and society.
Vicky Hegde (Namashi Chakraborty) is a volatile scholar. He ignites a national firestorm when he publicly accuses his legendary mentor, Prof. Gopal Nadkarni (Sanjay Dutt), of institutional bias. The faculty dispute is quickly hijacked by a news anchor and an ambitious political activist, turning it into a televised intellectual trial. Millions of Indians watch the debate in which Vicky confronts Nadkarni on explosive topics. Prof. Nadkarni answers each of Vicky’s queries with é lan.
Utkarsh Naithani has written a pro-RSS story with conviction. His screenplay is interesting but since the drama moves on a single track, it will appeal to the classes mainly. Of course, there is a lot for the masses too, especially considering the mood of the population today, but many among the audience would feel bored after a point of time. Utkarsh Naithani’s dialogues are good.
Sanjay Dutt does a lovely job as Prof. Gopal Nadkarni. Namashi Chakraborty springs a pleasant surprise in the role of Vicky Hegde. He delivers a very good performance. Mrinal Kulkarni lends decent support as Prabha Nadkarni. Amit Sadh makes his mark as Aditya Rao. Sameera Reddy makes her presence felt as Prof. Pallavi Menon. Neetu Chandra Srivastava acts ably as Kavya Rawat. Tridha Choudhary is effective as Sara. Harsimran Oberoi is nice as Ipshita Das. Rockey Raina (as Sohrab), Archana Iyer (as Vicky’s mother), Bipin Nadkarni (as Bipin Chaudhary) and Nikhil Nanda (as M.S. Golwalkar) do as desired.
Abhijeet Mohan Warang’s direction is targeted at the elite audience mainly. Monty Sharma’s music is okay. Camerawork (by Stanley Mudda) is alright. Amit Naikar’s action and stunt scenes are fair. Keshav Thakur’s production designing, and Rakesh Sutar’s art direction are so-so. Sanjay Sankla’s editing is sharp.
On the whole, well-made Aakhri Sawal does not have much of a commercial chance at the box-office. It will go largely unnoticed.
Released on 15-5-’26 at Inox (daily 4 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru PVR Inox Pictures. Publicity: so-so. Opening: poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was dull everywhere.
