‘OVA’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 20 September, 2024

Saveena Creation’s Ova (Marathi) is the story of a middle-aged couple which doesn’t get along well. The smallest of issues are blown up so much that a stage comes when the wife leaves her home and husband. As it is, their son does not stay with them because of the fights which take place every now and then.

Shrikant Bojewar has written a story and screenplay, both of which are not engaging enough for the audience. The drama about the dysfunctional family serves to depress the viewers more than anything else. It definitely doesn’t entertain them. Even Shrikant Bojewar’s dialogues don’t make up for the lacklustre drama.

Makarand Anaspure performs well as Gopal Desai. Mitalee Jagtap is quite nice in the role of his wife, Radha. Harshad Shinde is alright as Mohan. Prithvi Anand lends fair support as Rama. Others do as desired.

Swatantra (Savi) Goel’s direction is not as sensitive as it should’ve been. Arvind Sagole’s music is ordinary. Shrikant Bojewar’s lyrics are no better than the music. Venkat’s background music is fair. Raja Phadtare’s cinematography is alright. Giridhar Chandra and Ajay Mandal’s art direction doesn’t deserve separate mention. Manoj Sankla’s editing leaves something to be desired.

On the whole, Ova is too class-appealing to click at the turnstiles.

Released on 20-9-’24 at Plaza (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Pioneer Films. Publicity & opening: poor.
