If the advance booking of Spider-Man: No Way Home is any indication, the Hollywood franchise film will be off to a flying start all over India this Thursday (16th December). And if the reports match the initial craze for the film, it may well turn out to be a blockbuster.
The plans of the film, which is slated for release on 16th December, opened yesterday (11th) at places, and today (12th) at some other places. The response to the opening of plans has been so sensational that it has left even the most ardent fans of the franchise and the trade people speechless. The advance booking windows for the film for the first two days in Matrix Cinemas and Grande Cines of Guwahati (Assam) opened on Saturday (11th December). Believe it or not but all the shows at both the cinemas were sold out within an hour of the advance booking opening. Several properties of PVR opened the advance booking today (12th). Within a few hours, 35,000 tickets had been sold in those PVR properties!
Whether it is Bombay, Delhi and Bangalore or Bihar and Guwahati, the response to the film’s advance sale of tickets has been almost unprecedented.
Looking to the brisk sale of tickets, trade know-alls predict that the film may net Rs. 20 crore on the first day. Frankly, one never knows — the opening day’s collections of Spider-Man: No Way Home could be almost the same as or even slightly better than the first day’s collections of Sooryavanshi! Yes, don’t rub your eyes in disbelief because this is a possibility. It is at such times that you feel, the line between Bollywood and Hollywood is blurring. It is at such times that you also feel, exciting content is what the public is waiting for. Give them content which they are eagerly anticipating and people are bound to welcome the film with open arms.
So, any guesses on how much will the first weekend of the latest Spider-Man film be? And the first week? And what will the lifetime net collections of the film in all the languages (original English plus all the dubbed versions) be? Did someone say Rs. 200 crore-plus?
