Both the new releases of this week — AURON MEIN KAHAN DUM THA and ULAJH — opened to pathetic houses yesterday (August 2).

The UP Files bombed at the box-office in 1st week.

Uparwala & Sons collected dismally in the first week.

Rocky The Slave faced rejection in the first week.

Raayan (dubbed) turned out to be a major disappointment in 1st week.

Deadpool & Wolverine (dubbed and the original English versions) scored in the first weekend but faced a marked fall in collections thereafter. It still managed an exciting first week total. The film collected Rs. 21 crore on the first day. Collections on Saturday increased by around 7.5% so that the day closed at Rs. 22.68 crore. The total for Sunday was less than that of Friday and Saturday, giving an indication that the decline on the weekdays would be major. With the Sunday closing at Rs. 20.87 crore, the first weekend’s total was an impressive Rs. 64.55 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 7.10 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 6.05 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 5.30 crore, Thursday – Rs. 4.75 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 23.20 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 87.75 crore.

Bad Newz dropped more than 65% in the second week. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 2.22 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday went up to Rs. 3.52 crore and Rs. 4.02 crore respectively. In this way, the second weekend closed at Rs. 9.76 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.40 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.30 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.15 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 5.10 crore. Kill netted Rs. 1.10 crore in the fourth weekend, and another Rs. 0.68 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the total for 4th week was Rs. 1.78 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 24.15 crore.

Despicable Me 4 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) collected Rs. 0.66 crore in its fourth weekend. The total for the weekdays was Rs. 0.24 crore. Hence the total for 4th week was Rs. 0.90 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 14.22 crore.

Kalki 2898 AD (dubbed) netted Rs. 4.70 crore in the fifth weekend, and another Rs. 2.16 crore during the weekdays. In this way, its total for 5th week was Rs. 6.86 crore. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 285.86 crore.

Gharat Ganpati (Marathi) did fairly well in 1st week in Maharashtra.

Google Aai (Marathi) fared poorly in 1st week all over Maharashtra.

‘DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE’ OFF TO FLYING START

Hollywood’s DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE (English and dubbed versions) opened brilliantly yesterday (July 26), netting Rs. 21 crore across languages. With reports also being very good, the film is set for a meritorious run.

Bad Newz did well in the first weekend but dropped thereafter. It started its weekend with a take of Rs. 8.62 crore. Collections picked up on Saturday (Rs. 10.55 crore) and Sunday (Rs. 11.45 crore) so that the first weekend closed at Rs. 30.62 crore. The weekdays panned out as follows: Monday – Rs. 3.75 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3.80 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 3.20 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.75 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 13.50 crore. Hence the first week closed at Rs. 44.12 crore.

Accident Or Conspiracy: Godhra met with a poor fate in 1st week.

The Heist faced rejection in the first week.

Twisters (dubbed and the original English versions) did fairly well in the first weekend after which collections dropped. It opened on Thursday (July 18) and netted Rs. 0.65 crore. Collections on Friday totalled Rs. 0.63 crore. The film saw a huge jump on Saturday and the total was double that of Friday. After netting Rs. 1.31 crore on Saturday, it collected Rs. 1.28 crore on Sunday. Hence the total for the 4-day weekend was Rs. 3.87 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.34 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.33 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.33 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.32 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 1.32 crore, the first 8-day week closed at Rs. 5.19 crore.

Sarfira performed poorly in 2nd week too. It netted barely Rs. 3.65 crore in 2nd week, taking its grand total for 2 weeks to Rs. 22.50 crore.

Hindustani 2 (dubbed) is on its way out of the cinemas. It fared miserably in the second week also, collecting barely Rs. 5 lakh (Rs. 0.05 crore)! Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 3.65 crore.

Kill is on its way out after the third week. It started its third weekend with a take of Rs. 0.50 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday went up to Rs. 0.95 crore and Rs. 1.05 crore respectively, taking the weekend total to Rs. 2.50 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.44 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.35 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.32 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 1.51 crore. In this way, the total for the third week was Rs. 4.01 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 22.37 crore.

Despicable Me 4 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) started its third weekend with a net collection of Rs. 0.15 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday totalled Rs. 0.47 crore. ‘BAD NEWZ’ OPENS WELL

BAD NEWZ did not open to impressive houses in the morning shows but collections in the multiplexes picked up as the day progressed. The first day closed at an impressive Rs. 8.62 crore.

Sarfira fared poorly in the first week. It netted Rs. 2.50 crore on the opening day. After the dismal start, collections increased to Rs. 4.25 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 5.50 crore on Sunday, taking the weekend’s total to an unimpressive Rs. 12.25 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.70 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.60 crore, Wednesday (Moharram holiday) – Rs. 1.90 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.40 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 6.60 crore. In this way, the first week closed at Rs. 18.85 crore.

Hindustani 2 (dubbed) cut a sorry figure in the first week. Its first day closed at a pathetic Rs. 0.50 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were also poor at Rs. 0.70 crore and Rs. 0.95 crore respectively. After a disastrous weekend total of Rs. 2.15 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.35 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.30 crore. Kill did very well in 2nd week in Kerala and fairly well in the other circuits. It netted Rs. 0.80 crore on Friday. Collections increased to Rs. 1.43 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 1.72 crore on Sunday. Hence the total for the second weekend was Rs. 3.95 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.72 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.80 crore, Wednesday (Moharram holiday) – Rs. 0.90 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.63 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 3.05 crore, the second week closed at Rs. 7 crore. Of the Rs. 7 crore total for all-India, Kerala alone contributed Rs. 1.20 crore! (In the first week, the film had netted Rs. 0.22 crore in Kerala.) Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 18.36 crore.

Despicable Me 4 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) did fairly well in 2nd week. The second weekend started on a weak note with a take of Rs. 0.31 crore on Friday. Collections more than trebled on Saturday which, therefore, closed at Rs. 0.96 crore. The total for Sunday was Rs. 1.06 crore. After a second weekend total of Rs. 2.33 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.20 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.26 crore, Wednesday (Moharram holiday) – Rs. 0.50 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.16 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 1.12 crore. In this way, the total for 2nd week was Rs. 3.45 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 11.76 crore.

Kalki 2898 AD (dubbed) netted Rs. 21.75 crore in the third weekend, and another Rs. 10 crore during the weekdays, thereby taking its total for 3rd week to Rs. 31.75 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 265 crore.

Inside Out 2 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) managed to stay afloat in 5th week also. It started its fifth weekend with a take of Rs. 0.17 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 0.47 crore and Rs. 0.55 crore respectively. Hence the total for the fifth weekend was Rs. 1.19 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.13 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.17 crore, Wednesday (Moharram holiday) – Rs. 0.26 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.11 crore. Jatt & Juliet 3 (Punjabi) continued its victory march in East Punjab in 3rd week too. It netted Rs. 3.78 crore in the third week in India, taking its grand total for 3 weeks to Rs. 36.41 crore. The film was strong abroad too. It grossed Rs. 4.52 crore Overseas in the third week, taking its 3-week total to Rs. 52.93 crore!

‘SARFIRA’, ‘HINDUSTANI 2’ (DUBBED) DISAPPOINT WITH DULL OPENING

Both the major releases of this week disappointed big time with initials which did not befit their budgets, canvas and cast. The shows of SARFIRA had to be cancelled in some cinemas due to lack of audience. The position of HINDUSTANI 2 (dubbed) was also pathetic.

Kill did fair business in the first week. Although its collections on the opening day and in the first weekend were below the mark, it was steady during the weekdays. Quite strangely, its performance in Kerala was outstanding. Collections in Kerala are so phenomenal that it may end up contributing 2% of all-India instead of the usual 1% — double the normal percentage! It started its first weekend with a take of Rs. 1.35 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 2.20 crore and Rs. 2.70 crore respectively. Therefore, the first weekend closed at Rs. 6.25 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.30 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.35 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.24 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.22 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 5.11 crore, the total for 1st week was Rs. 11.36 crore.

Despicable Me 4 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) did well in the first week. The original English version fared far better than the Hindi dubbed version. After a Thursday (July 4) total of Rs. 1.30 lakh, it netted Rs. 1.23 crore on Friday. The collection total for Saturday was more than double at Rs. 2.48 crore. Collections further picked up on Sunday which closed at Rs. 2.72 crore. After a weekend total of Rs. 6.44 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.44 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.43 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 1.87 crore. In this way, the first week closed at Rs. 8.31 crore.

Kalki 2898 AD (dubbed) joined the Rs. 200-crore club on Sunday. It netted Rs. 9.75 crore on the first day of the second weekend. Collections jumped Rs. 17.75 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 22 crore on Sunday, taking the second weekend’s total to Rs. 49.50 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 6.75 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 5 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 4.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 4.50 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 20.50 crore. Total for 2nd week: Rs. 70 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 233.25 crore. The film is bound to cross Rs. 275 crore and may even touch Rs. 300 crore!

Chandu Champion barely managed to stay afloat in 4th week. It added Rs. 2.10 crore to its kitty in the fourth week. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 63.80 crore.

Inside Out 2 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) did fairly well in 4th week too. It started its fourth weekend with a net collections of Rs. 0.31 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday went up to Rs. 0.71 crore and Rs. 0.84 crore respectively. Hence the total for the fourth weekend was Rs. 1.86 crore. After that, the film netted as follows during the weekdays: Monday – Rs. 0.19 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.21 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.20 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.19 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 0.79 crore, the fourth week closed at Rs. 2.65 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 25.38 crore.

Vishay Hard (Marathi) failed to score in the first week in Maharashtra.

Jatt & Juliet 3 (Punjabi) continued to rule in East Punjab circuit as well as Overseas in 2nd week. It netted Rs. 8.50 crore in India in 2nd week, taking its grand total for 2 weeks to Rs. 32.63 crore. It grossed an excellent Rs. 12.41 crore in 2nd week. Total gross for 2 weeks from Overseas: Rs. 48.41 crore.

‘KALKI 2898 AD’ SCORES BIG TIME, ‘JATT & JULIET 3’ ANOTHER BLOCKBUSTER

Kalki 2898 AD (dubbed) did phenomenally well in the first week in spite of one section of the audience finding it too boring, long and confusing. It netted Rs. 22.50 crore on Thursday (June 27) despite an odd-day release without it being a holiday. Collections increased to Rs. 23.25 crore on Friday. Collections saw a further jump on Saturday which closed at Rs. 26.25 crore. The total for Sunday was an earth-shattering Rs. 40.15 crore. In this way, the total for the first 4-day weekend was an extraordinary Rs. 112.15 crore. Collections for the weekdays were also very good: Monday – Rs. 16.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 13 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 11.50 crore, Thursday – Rs. 10.10 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 51.10 crore, the first 8-day week closed at an outstanding Rs. 163.25 crore. The film should easily cross the Rs. 200-crore mark in spite of a line-up of major releases from next week onwards. The original Telugu version has also also done excellent business while the dubbed versions in Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam have fared quite well. The Overseas gross for the first week was Rs. 232 crore!

Chandu Champion faced a steep fall in collections in 3rd week. It netted only Rs. 3.75 crore in the third weekend, and another Rs. 1.75 crore during the weekdays, taking its total for 3rd week to Rs. 5.50 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 61.70 crore.

Inside Out 2 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) continued its victory march in the third week, mainly, of course, in English only. It netted Rs. 2.85 crore in the third weekend and another Rs. 1.60 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the total for 3rd week was Rs. 4.45 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 22.73 crore.

Munjya joined the Rs. 100-crore club in the fourth week. It netted Rs. 0.95 crore on the first day of the fourth weekend, Rs. 1.35 crore on the second day, and Rs. 1.95 crore on the third day. In this way, it netted Rs. 4.25 crore in the fourth weekend, falling short of the Rs. 100-crore mark by just Rs. 12 lakh. Collections for the weekdays were very steady at medium level: Monday – Rs. 0.57 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.55 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.54 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.52 crore. The total for the weekdays, therefore, was Rs. 2.18 crore. Hence the total for the fourth week was Rs. 6.43 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 102.06 crore.

Alyad Palyad (Marathi) did fairly well in 3rd week too, in Maharashtra.

Trisha On The Rocks (Gujarati) did fairly well in 2nd week also, in Gujarat and Saurashtra. It netted Rs. 0.51 crore in 2nd week, taking its grand total for 2 weeks to Rs. 2.99 crore.

Jhamkudi (Gujarati) managed an excellent total in 5th week too, in Gujarat and Saurashtra. It collected Rs. 0.75 crore in 5th week. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 16.59 crore.

Jatt & Juliet 3 (Punjabi) not only swept the box-office in East Punjab and Overseas but also did well in other parts of India like Delhi. Domestically, it netted Rs. 3.50 crore on the first day, Thursday (June 27), despite the odd-day release, that too without it being a holiday. As if the start was not great enough, it netted Rs. 4 crore on Friday, and Rs. 4.15 crore on Saturday. The jump in collections on Sunday was more marked; the day closed at an unbelievable Rs. 5.50 crore. Hence the total for the 4-day weekend was an earth-shattering Rs. 17.15 crore. Collections on the weekdays were also outstanding: Monday – Rs. 2.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.70 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.52 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.51 crore. With the weekdays’ total being Rs. 6.98 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 24.13 crore. Extraordinary! The film grossed Rs. 36 crore Overseas in 1st week. Of this, 50% came from North America alone!

‘KALKI 2898 AD’ OFF TO WONDERFUL START

KALKI 2898 AD (dubbed) started on a wonderful note on Thursday (June 27). In spite of the odd-day release — that too, without it being a holiday — the film netted Rs. 22 crore on the first day. Collections on Friday totalled Rs. 22.50 crore, which was slightly more than the first day. Collections should show a sizeable jump today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday).   

Living up to the first and second parts, JATT & JULIET 3 (Punjabi) opened to historic houses on Thursday (June 27) despite an odd-day release. It netted Rs. 2.50 crore in East Punjab on the first day, and another Rs. 1 crore from Delhi and other stations. The film grossed an overwhelming Rs. 6.63 crore Overseas on day 1! Collections on the second day (Friday) were just as outstanding!!

Ishq Vishk Rebound could not score in 1st week. It managed barely Rs. 4.50 crore in the first week.

Hamare Baarah proved a box-office bomb. It performed rather badly in the first week.

Jahangir National University met with a disastrous fate at the turnstiles in 1st week.

Pushtaini cut a sorry picture of itself in the first week.

A Stranger By The Hill collected so miserably in the first week that it lived up to the adage: truth (collections) is stranger than fiction.

Fake Boy Friend proved to be a debacle in 1st week.

Chandu Champion did fairly well in the second weekend but was dull during the weekdays. It crashed on Thursday (June 27) due to the release of Kalki 2898 AD. It started its second weekend with a take of Rs. 3.10 crore.Collections on Saturday increased to Rs. 4.90 crore, and to Rs. 6.25 crore on Sunday. After a second weekend total of Rs. 14.25 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.90 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.80 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.85 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.80 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 6.35 crore. In this way, the second week closed at Rs. 20.60 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 56.20 crore.

Inside Out 2 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) continued to shine (mainly English version) in 2nd week. The film netted Rs. 0.93 crore on the first day of the second weekend. Collections increased by almost 150% on Saturday so that the day closed at Rs. 2.21 crore. The figure for Sunday was an impressive Rs. 2.57 crore. After a second weekend total of Rs. 5.71 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.65 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.69 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.77 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.43 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 2.54 crore, and the total for 2nd week was Rs. 8.25 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 18.28 crore.

Munjya continued to kill it at the box-office in 3rd week too. It will join the Rs. 100-crore club in the fourth week. The third weekend commenced with a net collection of Rs. 3.31 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday and Sunday jumped to Rs. 5.80 crore and Rs. 7.20 crore respectively. Hence the total for the third weekend was a very impressive Rs. 16.31 crore. The film behaved pretty well on the weekdays too except on the last day (Thursday) when Kalki 2898 AD opened. It netted Rs. 2.50 crore on Monday, Rs. 2.48 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 2.49 crore on Wednesday, and Rs. 0.85 crore on Thursday. The total for the weekdays was, therefore, Rs. 8.32 crore. ‘MUNJYA’ CONTINUES VICTORY MARCH

Chandu Champion did ordinary business in 1st week. The slow start was the biggest setback for the film. Although collections increased in the weekend, the jumpstart was missing. It netted only Rs. 4.50 crore on the first day. Collections picked up on Saturday which closed at Rs. 7 crore. The total for Sunday was Rs. 10 crore. In this way, the first weekend closed at Rs. 21.50 crore only. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday (not much benefit of the Eid holiday) – Rs. 5 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3.25 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 3 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.85 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 14.10 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 35.60 crore.

Manihar met with a disastrous fate in 1st week.

Inside Out 2 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) did very well in the first week. Actually, the original English version scored while the Hindi dubbed version fared poorly. The film (both, English and Hindi dubbed) netted Rs. 1.26 crore on the first day. Collections increased to Rs. 2.16 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 2.71 crore on Sunday. After a first weekend total Rs. 6.13 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday (Eid holiday) – Rs. 1.49 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.81 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.83 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.77 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 3.90 crore. Therefore, the total for the first week was Rs. 10.03 crore.

 

Munjya did outstanding business in 2nd week, the drop being barely 5.5% over the first week. The film will qualify to be called a surprise super-hit. ‘MUNJYA’ SURPRISES TRADE

This week’s new release, CHANDU CHAMPION, started on a shaky wicket but its positive reports offset the dejection that could’ve set in.

Munjya sprung a wonderful surprise on the trade. In spite of a low-key promotional campaign, the film took a pretty impressive start. After that, collections jumped during the weekend, giving enough hope that the medium-budget film was on its way to becoming a hit. Collections during the weekdays were also pretty good. The first day closed at Rs. 4.21 crore, thanks in no small measure to reduced ticket prices. Collections on Saturday jumped to Rs. 7.40 crore, and further to Rs. 8.43 crore on Sunday. After a weekend total of Rs. 20.04 crore, collections for the weekdays were supremely steady: Monday – Rs. 4.11 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 4.21 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 4.11 crore, Thursday – Rs. 4.03 crore. With the total for the weekdays being a wonderful Rs. 16.46 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 36.50 crore. Around 90% of the film’s cost has been recovered by way of the distributor’s share for the first week alone!

Bajrang Aur Ali failed to bring the footfalls in the first week.

GUJARATI ‘JHAMKUDI’ SHINES

Mr. & Mrs. Mahi did well in the first weekend, buoyed by the low ticket price on the first day (June 1) which was celebrated as the Cinema Lovers’ Day. It netted Rs. 6.85 crore on the first day. Collections fell to Rs. 4.65 crore on Saturday as the ticket prices returned to the regular levels. Sunday closed at Rs. 5.62 crore, taking the first weekend’s total to Rs. 17.12 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 2.21 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.86 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.90 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.80 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 7.77 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 24.89 crore.

Savi did ordinary business in the first week, which was not bad, considering that it was a small-budget fare and one which was handicapped by low promotion. The first day (Cinema Lovers’ Day) closed at Rs. 2.05 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 1.75 crore and Rs. 1.76 crore respectively. In this way, the total for the first weekend was Rs. 5.56 crore. Collections dipped quite dramatically during the weekdays: Monday – Rs. 0.55 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.45 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.44 crore. AUDIENCE’S LOVE POURS ON CINEMA LOVERS’ DAY

Low admission rates of Rs. 99 on the occasion of Cinema Lovers’ Day yesterday (May 31) resulted in an upsurge in footfalls in multiplexes and single-screen cinemas. The biggest beneficiary was the new release, MR. & MRS. MAHI which netted Rs. 6.85 crore on the first day. SAVI also stood to gain; it collected Rs. 1.95 crore on the opening day. The other new releases did not perform well at the box-office in spite of the controlled ticket prices.

Bhaiyya Ji could not do much in the first week. It performed better in single-screen cinemas than in multiplexes. It netted Rs. 1.44 crore on the first day. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 2.01 crore and Rs. 2.40 crore respectively. Hence the total for the first weekend was Rs. 5.85 crore. Collections for the weekdays were on the lower side: Monday – Rs. 0.88 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.89 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.76 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.65 crore.
