Noted cameraman Johny Lal passed away today (21st April) in Bombay due to COVID-19. He had tested positive around a fortnight back and was quarantined at his home where the end came. He was 59 and is survived by his wife and two children.
Johny Lal was the brother of Kabir Lal and Amir Lal, both of who are also cameramen. The eldest brother, late Badsha Lal, was also a cameraman. Johny Lal had shot for Solah Dooni Aathh last month, first in North India and then for a few days in Bombay. It was during the Bombay schedule that he felt unwell and retired from shooting. His younger brother, Amir Lal, completed the balance shooting of the film. Among the films cinematographed by Johny Lal were Mujhe Kuchh Kehna Hai, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Om Jai Jagadish, Jeena Sirf Merre Liye, Kuchh To Hai, Lakeer – Forbidden Lines, Vaada, Shaadi Se Pehle, Shaadi No. 1, Fool N Final, Partner, Kal Kissne Dekha, Horn ‘OK’ Pleassss, Veerey Ki Wedding and Dhadke Dil Baar Baar.
Production controller Ansari told Information, “I had spoken to him a week back. He said, he was not well.” Ansari added, “Johny was an extremely nice human being. Sadly, he is no more.”
