KANGANA FILES PETITION IN HC TO STAY TRIAL IN DEFAMATION CASE | 7 January, 2024

Kangana Ranaut has filed a petition in the Bombay high court urging it to stay the trial against her in a defamation case filed by writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar. The plea is likely to be heard on January 9 by a bench led by Justice Revati Mohite-Dere.

Aggrieved by her remarks to a television news channel in the aftermath of actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise, Javed Akhtar had filed a defamation complaint against the actress. Kangana had alleged that Akhtar threatened her when she met him in 2016.

The actress also filed a cross-complaint against Javed Akhtar. While the Andheri (Bombay) magistrate summoned Akhtar in July last year, the Dindoshi (Bombay) court stayed the order and trial proceedings from Kangana’s complaint till Javed Akhtar’s revision application was heard.
