LATEST POSITION | 1 February, 2025 BAD SPELL CONTINUES: AFTER DEBACLE OF ‘SKY FORCE’, ‘DEVA’ DISAPPOINTS WITH DULL OPENING THIS WEEK

The initial of DEVA yesterday (31st January) was rather dull! The Shahid Kapoor starrer managed to collect just about Rs. 4.80 crore on the first day.

Sky Force underperformed in the first week. Despite reasonable public reports, it fared quite poorly. It started very slow on Friday but picked up on the second day. Collections grew even more on Sunday because of the Republic Day fervour which went well with the patriotic flavour of the film. However, collections dropped again from Monday onwards. The Friday total was Rs. 5.50 crore. Collections went up to Rs. 10.50 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 14 crore on Sunday. After a first weekend total of Rs. 30 crore, collections on the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 3.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2 crore. In this way, the film netted Rs. 10.50 crore during the weekdays. Hence the total for 1st week was Rs. 40.50 crore. Of course, the records will show total collections of Rs. 80 crore but that’s because heavy block booking of the unsold tickets was done on each single day of the first week to give the impression that the film was performing extraordinarily at the ticket counters. This was, perhaps, the maximum block bookings anyone had ever done in the history of Bollywood. Proof of this lay in the fact that a housefull or near-housefull scenario on BookMyShow.com coincided with near-empty cinema halls because there was no public to fill the seats which were block-booked. It may be added here that although block bookings were done across the country and in multiplexes and cinemas belonging to the national chains in the initial days, it was later restricted mainly to PVR Inox chain of cinemas because PVR Inox Pictures is the all-India distributor of the film.

Ramayana: The Legend Of Prince Rama (animation; Hindi, English and South Indian language versions) did very ordinary business in the first week. The Hindi version was more than seven times better than the English version. It netted around Rs. 1.90 crore in the first weekend, and another Rs. 1.10 crore during the weekdays. In this way, the total for the first week was Rs. 3 crore.

Daaku Maharaaj (dubbed) flopped miserably in 1st week.

Hong Kong Warriors (dubbed) proved to be a debacle in the first week.

Azaad continued to send chills down the spines of the trade wallahs because of its horrendous collections in 2nd week. It barely managed Rs. 0.35 crore in 2nd week, taking its grand total for 2 weeks to Rs. 6.10 crore.

Emergency continued its dull run in the second week also. Its collections fell by around 75%. It collected only Rs. 3.50 crore in 2nd week. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 17 crore.

Mufasa: The Lion King (animation; dubbed and the original English versions) recorded ordinary collections in the sixth week. It netted Rs. 2 crore in 6th week, taking its grand total for 6 weeks to Rs. 130 crore.

Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed) is in its last lap. It netted Rs. 1.50 crore in 8th week. Grand total for 8 weeks: Rs. 762.25 crore.

Fussclass Dabhade! (Marathi) did very well in the first week in Maharashtra.
