Sony Pictures Films India, Ellipsis Entertainment and Aayush Maheshwari’s Looop Lapeta is a thriller. An official adaptation of German film Run Lola Run, it is about a girl, Savi (Taapsee Pannu), who races against time to save her boyfriend, Satya (Tahir Raj Bhasin).

Satya loses a huge amount of cash belonging to an underworld don, Victor (Dibyendu Bhattacharya). He has just 50 minutes to find that money or to arrange for the cash if he wants to stay alive. Girlfriend Savi does all under her control to come to his rescue but for that, she must break out of a curious cycle of dead ends.

Dr. Vinay Chhawal, Ketan Pedgaonkar, Aakash Bhatia and Arnav Vepa Nanduri have written an engaging story and screenplay which is based on the German film written by Tom Tykwer. Although the same drama is repeated thrice, it is only the third time that slight boredom creeps in. The track of Julia and Jacob in the last round seems too long and boring. Otherwise, the drama keeps the audience quite entertained because of the concept and the interesting characters in the drama. Of course, new layers of the story get revealed each time — and that’s done very well to sustain the viewers’ interest. The various tracks, other than the main track, are as interesting as the main one. Dialogues are superb, very real and greatly add to the fun quotient.

Taapsee Pannu acts wonderfully as Savi. She makes her character come alive and carries a good part of the burden of the film on her shoulders. Tahir Raj Bhasin is natural to the core in the role of Satya. His anguish and frustration come across beautifully because of his realistic performance. Dibyendu Bhattacharya lends remarkable support as Victor. Shreya Dhanwanthary leaves a superb mark as Julia. Rajendra Chawla is terrific in the role of Mamlesh Charan Chaddha. Manik Papneja (as Appu) and Raghav Raj Kakker (as Gappu) are extremely funny and create phenomenal comedy. Sameer Kevin Roy shines as Jacob. Alistar Bennis has his moments as Robert. Bhupesh Bandekar lends remarkable support as police officer David. K.C. Shankar (as Atul Borkar) and Varun Pande (as Yash) make their presence felt. Others are adequate.

Aakash Bhatia’s direction is very good. He has handled the subject with élan. Music (Sidhant Mago, Mayank Mehra, Santanu Ghatak, Rahul Pais and Nariman Khambata) goes with the mood of the film. Lyrics (Sidhant Mago, Siddhant Kaushal and Santanu Ghatak) are appropriate. Rahul Pais and Nariman Khambata do a fine job of the background music. Yash Khanna’s camerawork is decent. Action scenes and stunts are well choreographed by Aejaz Gulab. Production designing (Pradeep Paul Francis and Diya Mukerjea) and art direction (Santosh Vishwakarma) are of a good standard. Priyank Prem Kumar’s editing is sharp.

On the whole, Looop Lateta is a fairly entertaining film. It will be liked by youngsters and families.

Released on 4-2-’22 on Netflix.
