Netflix today (16th July) announced a line-up of six new films across genres, and two new series. The new films which will premiere on Netflix in the coming weeks are Ludo (starring Abhishek Bachchan, Rajkumar Rao, Aditya Roy Kapur, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Pankaj Tripathi and Pearle Manney), Torbaaz (starring Sanjay Dutt), Raat Akeli Hai (Radhika Apte, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Aditya Srivastava, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Nishant Dahiya and Shweta Tripathi), Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare (Konkona Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar), Ginny Weds Sunny (Yami Gautam and Vikrant Massey), and animation film Bombay Rose. While saying that India was a very important market for Netflix, Monika Shergill, Vice President – Content, Netflix, said that it was committed to offering films across genres to cater to all kinds of audiences. Reacting to the new trend of premiering films on streaming platforms like Netflix as cinemas are shut due to the coronavirus lockdown, she said, “Cinemas and OTT platforms will not just co-exist, they will co-thrive.”
The list of Netflix’s films already announced for release include Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (starring Janhvi Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Angad Bedi, Vineet Kumar, Manav Vij and Ayesha Raza Mishra), Tribhanga – Tedhi Medhi Crazy (Kajol, Tanvi Azmi and Mithila Palkar), Kaali Khuhi (Shabana Azmi, Satyadeep Mishra, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Riva Arora), Serious Men (Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Nassar and Shweta Basu Prasad), Class Of ’83 (Bobby Deol, Bhupendra Jadawat, Hitesh Bhojraj and Anup Soni), and AK Vs AK (Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap).
The two new series announced today are Mismatched and A Suitable Boy. Mismatched is based on Sandhya Menon’s book, When Dimple Met Rishi, and stars Prajakta Koli and Rohit Saraf. Ishaan Khatter, Tabu, Tanya Maniktala, Rasika Duggal, Shahana Goswami and Ram Kapoor star in A Suitable Boy which is based on Vikram Seth’s critically acclaimed book of the same name. These two series join the upcoming line-up including Masaba Masaba (starring Masaba Gupta and Neena Gupta playing themselves, with Neil Bhoopalam), Bombay Begums (Pooja Bhatt, Amruta Subhash, Shahana Goswami, Plabita Borthakur and Aadhya Anand), and Bhaag Beanie Bhaag (earlier titled Messy, starring Swara Bhasker, Ravi Patel, Dolly Singh and Varun Thakur).
