‘MOONFALL’ (DUBBED) REVIEW | 11 February, 2022

Huayi Brothers International, Huayi Tencent Entertainment International, Centropolis Entertainment, Street Entertainment and AGC Studios’ Moonfall (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; UA) is a science fiction disaster film about the Moon coming close to the Earth, and disasters on Earth, like tsunamis, gravitational abnormalities and atmospheric dissipation, increasing. Deputy NASA director Jocinda Fowler (Halle Berry), disgraced astronaut Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) and conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley) launch a mission to put back the Moon in its regular orbit. Do they succeed?

Roland Emmerich, Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen have penned a drama which often gets confusing for the viewers. Since there are too many technical references and also points about artificial intelligence, the drama becomes even more complex.

Halle Berry does an excellent job as Jocinda Fowler. Patrick Wilson performs well as Brian Harper. John Bradley is effective as K.C. Houseman. Michael Peña lends decent support as Tom Lopez. Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu, Donald Sutherland, Eme Ikwuakor, Carolina Bartczak, Maxim Roy, Frank Schorpion, Azriel Dalman and others provide adequate support.

Roland Emmerich’s direction doesn’t make the complex part of the drama any easier to comprehend although his narrative style is in synch with the kind of drama it is. Thomas Wander and Harald Kloser’s background music is impactful. Robby Baumgartner’s cinematography is of a wonderful standard. Editing (Adam Wolfe and Ryan Stevens Harris) is alright. Dubbing is appropriate.

On the whole, a very technical Moonfall stands bleak chances at the Hindi box-office.

Released on 11-2-’22 at Maratha Mandir (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru PVR Pictures Ltd. Publicity & opening: poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak everywhere. The original English version has also released simultaneously to dull houses.
