Veteran actors Vyjayanthimala Bali and Chiranjeevi will be honoured with the Padma Vibhushan. Their names are among the five announced for the Republic Day honours.
Celebrated music director Pyarelal Sharma, actor Mithun Chakraborty and singer Ushu Uthup will be given the Padma Bhushan. Actor-director Raj Dutt will also be conferred with the Padma Bhushan. Tamil film actor Vijaykanth will be honoured posthumously with the award.
West Bengal composer Ratan Kahar has also been honoured with the Padma Bhushan. Although he is not a film music director, his composition, Genda phool, was recreated by Badshah for Sony Music. Badshah’s song and the video featuring Jacqueline Fernandez, is extremely popular. However, Sony did not reportedly pay anything to Ratan Kahar. What’s equally shocking is that Kahar was not even given credit for the original composition.
