PRODUCER ACCUSES PANCHALI CHAKRAVARTY OF FRAUD | 2 August, 2024

The Versova (Bombay) police on July 30 registered a case against Panchali Chakravarty, director in Jelly Bean Entertainment Company, for allegedly cheating Yogesh Rahar.

The 40-year-old Rahar has accused Chakravarty of fraud. According to him, she asked him to invest Rs. 1 crore in a web series she was producing, promising him 50% share in profits. However, Yogesh Rahar explained, she neither produced the web series nor refunded his money. Furthermore, the complainant told the police, she threatened to implicate him in false criminal cases when he demanded his money back.

Rahar, who owns Avak Films with his brother in Gurgaon, claimed to have met Panchali Chakravarty two years ago. She told him, she was producing a web series titled Kab Tak Jawani Chupaogi Rani and promised him equal partnership if he invested in the series. Between December 2022 and May 2023, Rahar claimed to have paid Panchali Rs. 1 crore in instalments by cash and cheques. Even one year later, she did not start the production but, instead, used the funds for personal purposes, said Rahar. She also refused to refund his money.

The police on July 30 registered a case under sections 406 (breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Investigations are on.
