RAJ BABBAR GETS TWO-YEAR JAIL TERM FOR ASSAULTING POLLING OFFICER | 7 July, 2022

A Lucknow court today (July 7) awarded a two-year jail term to actor-politician Raj Babbar for assaulting a polling officer in a 26-year-old case. Babbar was convicted for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from performing his duty and three other offences. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 8,500 on him. The court also granted him bail today itself.

The polling officer, Krishna Singh Rana, had lodged an FIR against Raj Babbar, his accomplice, Arvind Yadav, and others at the Wazirganj police station in Badaun district of U.P. during an election in May 1996 when Babbar was contesting from the Samajwadi Party. He is said to have beaten up Rana and another polling officer, Shiv Kumar Singh, on May 2, 1996.

Raj Babbar was present in the court when the verdict was pronounced.
