RENOWNED MALAYALAM FILMMAKER K.G. GEORGE DEAD | 24 September, 2023

Renowned Malayalam film director K.G. George passed away this morning (24th September) in an old-age home near Kakkanad. The veteran had been fighting health issues since five years following a stroke that impacted his life. He was 77.

George had directed 19 films in all. He had won the National Award for the best feature film in Malayalam for Swapnadanam. His dedication and influence in the Malayalam film industry were recognized in 2015 when he was selected for the J.C. Daniel award, the Kerala government’s highest honour for outstanding contribution to Malayalam cinema. His filmography is a testament to his versatility as a filmmaker who tried to bridge the gap between commercial and art cinema. Some of his well-known films include Ulkaddal (1979), Onappudava (1978), Yavanika (1982) and Adaminte Variyellu (1984). These films not only won him critical acclaim but also secured numerous state film awards. His Panchavadi Palam is counted as one of the best political satires in Malayalam cinema.
