The All India Cine Workers’ Association (AICWA) has banned and boycotted singer Mika Singh after he performed in Pakistan recently at the wedding of the daughter of former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s cousin. Relations between India and Pakistan have been strained following the scrapping of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution which gave Jammu & Kashmir special status. Reacting to the abolition of Article 370, the Pakistan government announced a ban on Indian films and television content. Obviously, India was neither going to allow its singers or celebrities to perform in the neighbouring country nor was it in a mood to let Pakistani singers sing in its films or Pakistani artistes act in Indian films.
