KOYTA EK SANGHARSH (Marathi) | 1 June, 2019

Mayura Films’ Koyta Ek Sangharsh (Marathi; UA; meaning ‘Fighting with a koyta’ (weapon)) is the story of a harassed woman’s revolt.

Ramesh (Ramesh Raaj) lives with wife Sarita (Priyanka Malshetty) and their kids. They are very poor. Ramesh needs Rs. 75,000 for an urgent surgery for his mother. Anna (Prakash Dhotre), the labour supervisor of the village, agrees to give Ramesh Rs. 1 lakh but on the condition that he and his wife, Sarita, would work in the sugarcane fields in return. Anna lusts for Sarita and wants her in the fields for this reason.

One day, Anna murders Ramesh so that he can rape Sarita. What happens thereafter?

Pralhad Ujgire’s story is routine with not even a hint of novelty. The story is so predictable that nothing really startles, shocks or surprises the audience. Chetan Chavan’s screenplay is clichéd. Consequently, the drama fails to engage the viewers. His dialogues are commonplace.

Ramesh Raaj is ordinary in the role of Ramesh. Priyanka Malshetty does an average job as Sarita. Prakash Dhotre is alright as Anna. Chetan Chavan (as Gajya) and the others lend ordinary support.

Chetan Chavan’s direction is rather dull. Music and lyrics (both by Sharad Thombre and Monu Ajmeri) are below the mark. Satish Sandbhor’s cinematography is nothing to shout about. Editing (Chetan Sagde and Shivganesh Bhalekar) is loose.

On the whole, Koyta Ek Sangharsh is a flop show.
