‘SOS 2’, ‘DHADAK 2’ FAIL TO ENTERTAIN, ‘MAHAVATAR NARSIMHA’ SUPER-STRONG IN 2ND WEEK

Son Of Sardaar 2 did not find much acceptance because of which collections crashed during the weekdays after a mediocre first weekend. The film opened to very ordinary houses on the first day which, therefore, closed at Rs. 7 crore. Collections on Saturday totalled Rs. 7.50 crore while Sunday closed at Rs. 8.25 crore. Hence the total for the first weekend was Rs. 22.75 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 2.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.75 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 8.75 crore, the first week closed at just Rs. 31.50 crore.

Dhadak 2 did not have many takers in 1st week. It started with a take of Rs. 3.45 crore on Friday. Collections did not show much growth on Saturday (Rs. 3.76 crore) and Sunday (Rs. 4.11 crore) because the public reports were not impressive except among the class audience in the big cities. After a first weekend total of only Rs. 11.32 crore, collections for the weekdays were rather dull: Monday – Rs. 1.61 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.92 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.46 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.16 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was a dull Rs. 6.15 crore. Hence the first week closed at Rs. 17.47 crore only.

Saamrajya (dubbed) fared poorly in the first week.

Mahavatar Narsimha (animation, Hindi and South languages) continued to rule the box-office with extraordinary business in the second week too. The second week started with a take of Rs. 7.46 crore on Friday. Collections more than doubled and went up to Rs. 15.81 crore on Saturday. The total for Sunday was an earth-shattering Rs. 22.96 crore. After an absolutely outstanding total of Rs. 46.23 crore in the second weekend, the collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 6.90 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 7.94 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 5.92 crore, Thursday – Rs. 4.89 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was mind-numbing Rs. 25.65 crore. In this way, the second week closed at a historic Rs. 71.88 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 116.06 crore.

The Fantastic 4: First Steps (dubbed and the original English versions) did ordinary in 2nd week. It added only Rs. 6.50 crore to its kitty in 2nd week, taking its grand total for 2 weeks to Rs. 31.50 crore.

Saiyaara crossed the Rs. 300-crore mark in the third weekend. The film started the third weekend with a net collection of Rs. 5 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday rose to Rs. 7 crore, and further to Rs. 8.25 crore on Sunday. After a third weekend total of Rs. 20.25 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2 crore. With a total of Rs. 9.50 crore for the weekdays, the third week closed at Rs. 29.75 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 315 crore.

Superman (dubbed and the original English versions) dropped 70% in the fourth week. The fourth weekend started with a take of Rs. 0.07 crore on Friday. Collections increased to Rs. 0.15 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 0.18 crore on Sunday. Hence the total for the fourth weekend was Rs. 0.40 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.04 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.05 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.05 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.04 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 0.18 crore. In this way, the fourth week closed at Rs. 0.58 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 48.51 crore.

Jurassic World: Rebirth (dubbed and the original English versions) fell little more than 66% in the fifth week. It missed joining the Rs. 100-crore club by some lakhs. It netted Rs. 0.12 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday increased to Rs. 0.33 crore while on Sunday, they went up to Rs. 0.42 crore. Therefore, the total for the fifth weekend was Rs. 0.87 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.09 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.11 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.09 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.09 crore. F1: The Movie (dubbed and the original English versions) was supremely steady in the sixth week, mainly the original English version, of course. The film netted Rs. 0.55 crore on the first day (Friday) of the sixth weekend. Collections almost doubled to Rs. 1.01 crore on Saturday whereas the total for Sunday was Rs. 1.06 crore. Therefore, the total for the sixth weekend was Rs. 2.62 crore. ‘K.G.F. CHAPTER 2’ (DUBBED) IN 3RD WEEK OUTDOES NEW RELEASES ‘RUNWAY 34’, ‘HEROPANTI 2’

Runway 34 found very limited favour with the class audience only, because of which collections were on the lower side. It didn’t get any advantage of even the Eid holiday on 3rd May. The first weekend started with a take of only Rs. 2.50 crore. Collections improved on Saturday and even more on Sunday but although the jump was good in percentage terms, it wasn’t big enough in real terms because the starting point was so low. Saturday closed at Rs. 4.25 crore while the total for Sunday was Rs. 5.50 crore. In this way, the first weekend’s total was Rs. 12.25 crore. Collections during the weekdays were rather low, including on Eid day (Tuesday). The low collections on the days of the weekend and again on Eid day conclusively underlined the fact that the film had appealed to only a section of the audience rather than universally. The collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 2.15 crore, Tuesday (Eid) – Rs. 3.50 crore (less than collections on Saturday and on Sunday), Wednesday (Baasi Eid) – Rs. 2 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.25 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was only Rs. 8.90 crore. Total for 1st week: Rs. 21.15 crore only.

Heropanti 2 also fared poorly. The action film also got very little advantage of the Eid holiday on 3rd May. The first weekend commenced with a take of Rs. 6.25 crore which included tickets bought by the concerned people to give the film an artificial boost. Collections on Saturday totalled Rs. 4.75 crore while the total for Sunday was a poor Rs. 3.75 crore. In this way, the first weekend closed at Rs. 14.75 crore. While the attendance in cinemas declined dramatically on the weekdays, even the Eid festival on Tuesday did not see collections taking a perceptible jump in real numbers. The day-wise totals for the weekdays: Monday – Rs. 1 crore, Tuesday (Eid) – Rs. 2.50 crore, Wednesday (Baasi Eid) – Rs. 2.15 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.25 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was a paltry Rs. 6.90 crore. Total for first week: Rs. 21.65 crore.

Jersey crashed in 2nd week everywhere. It added only Rs. 2.50 crore to its kitty in 2nd week. Total for 2 weeks: Rs. 21.70 crore.

K.G.F. Chapter 2 (dubbed) crossed the lifetime business of Dangal, in just three weeks to become the second-biggest Hindi film of all time. It crossed the Rs. 387 crore of Dangal on its 21st day (Wednesday). The Hindi dubbed version will join the Rs. 400-crore club in the fourth weekend. It fared better in its third week than the new releases of last week (in their first weeks)! The third weekend started with a take of Rs. 4.25 crore. Collections on Saturday rose by 70% so that the day closed at Rs. 7.25 crore. Sunday saw the film’s collections take a further jump, to Rs. 9.27 crore. Therefore, the third weekend closed at Rs. 20.77 crore. The total on Monday was Rs. 3.75 crore. Collections on Tuesday shot up to Rs. 9.57 crore on account of the Eid holiday. Baasi Eid helped collections to reach Rs. 8.75 crore on Wednesday. On Wednesday, the film had surpassed the lifetime net collections of Dangal which was, therefore, displaced to the third spot among the all-time top Hindi grossers. The Thursday total was Rs. 6.30 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 28.37 crore. Total for 3rd week: Rs. 49.14 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 397.95 crore.

Chandramukhi (Marathi) has done well at places in Maharashtra and excellent at others in the state in 1st week.

Sher Shivraj (Marathi) continued to score in the second week too, all over Maharashtra.

TWO REGIONAL FILMS ROCK THE BOX-OFFICE

The week gone by belonged to two regional films — Telugu LOVE STORY and Punjabi QISMAT 2. Both the films smashed old box-office records and created new ones in spite of lockdown restrictions on cinemas. On the other hand, success continued to elude Bollywood.

Dilli Kaand was a resounding flop, as was expected. The film collected such dismal figures that only the rape in the film was more horrific than them.

Jungle Cruise (English and dubbed versions) did well only in select multiplexes and high-end single-screen cinemas. Otherwise, collections were below the mark.

A scene from blockbuster Telugu film ‘Love Story’.

Love Story (Telugu) has done amazingly well in the first week. It has yielded a share of Rs. 22.23 crore from Andhra, Nizam and Ceded. Break-up: Nizam – Rs. 10.58 crore, Ceded – Rs. 3.56 crore, Upper Andhra – Rs. 2.48 crore, East Godavari – Rs. 1.35 crore, West Godavari – Rs. 1.13 crore, Guntur – Rs. 1.30 crore, Krishna – Rs. 1.12 crore, Nellore – Rs. 0.71 crore.

Qismat 2 (Punjabi) is a bigger hit than even the recent Chal Mera Putt 2 (Punjabi). It netted Rs. 0.92 crore in East Punjab circuit on the first day (Thursday). Collections increased to Rs. 0.95 crore on the second day. Collections on Saturday shot up to Rs. 1.29 crore. They shot up further on Sunday which closed at an unbelievable Rs. 1.73 crore. The first four-day weekend total was, therefore, an out-of-the-world Rs. 4.89 crore! Collections during the weekdays were also extraordinary: Monday – Rs. 0.73 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.71 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.63 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.52 crore. In this way, the film netted Rs. 2.59 crore during the four weekdays, taking the first 8-day week’s total to Rs. 7.48 crore! In the rest of India, the film netted Rs. 3 crore in the first 8-day week. Its all-India total was, therefore, an extraordinary Rs. 10.48 crore!!

‘TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR’ OPENS WELL BUT SUFFERS ON ACCOUNT OF MID-WEEK RELEASE DUE TO HOLIDAY CONFUSION

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR, which opened on Wednesday (8th March) to take advantage of the Holi holiday, ended up suffering too because some states observed the holiday a day earlier, on 7th. Resultantly, collections in those states on the opening day (8th) were below the mark as it wasn’t a holiday on the day of release. Collections on the second day, as expected, dropped — by 33%. The film fared well in multiplexes but was not up to the mark in single-screen cinemas. The first day’s all-India total, in spite of the ‘fractured’ holiday, was an impressive Rs. 14.25 crore. The net collection figure on Thursday was Rs. 9.50 crore. Friday closed at Rs. 9.25 crore. Collections today (Saturday) have shown a noteworthy jump.

InCar bombed miserably in the first week.

Ghaznavi proved to be a disaster in 1st week.

Selfiee recorded horrendous collections in 2nd week.

Shehzada fared poorly in 3rd week and is on its way out.

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania (dubbed and the original English versions) is on its last lap. Its third week’s collections were on the lower side. The film collected Rs. 2.50 crore in the third weekend, and another Rs. 1.26 crore during the weekdays. In this way, the film netted Rs. 3.76 crore in the third week. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 41.20 crore.

Pathaan did quite well in its sixth week too. It netted Rs. 5.82 crore (Hindi Rs. 5.65 crore; dubbed Rs. 0.17 crore) in the sixth weekend, and another Rs. 3.30 crore (Hindi Rs. 3.20 crore; dubbed Rs. 0.10 crore) during the weekdays. Its collections got a boost due to the Holi holiday on 7th/8th March. In this way, the total for the sixth week was Rs. 9.12 crore (Hindi Rs. 8.85 crore; dubbed Rs. 0.27 crore). Grand total for 6 weeks: 538.01 crore (Hindi Rs. 519.50 crore; dubbed Rs. 18.51 crore).

Raundal (Marathi) did fair business in parts of Maharashtra in the first week.

Satarcha Salman (Marathi) proved a damp squib in the first week all over Maharashtra.

Masuta (Marathi) flopped in the first week all over Maharashtra.
