‘STREE 2’ MAJESTICALLY ENTERS RS. 500-CRORE CLUB IN JUST 3 WEEKS!

The Diary Of West Bengal fared miserably in the first week all over.

A Wedding Story wrote a poor story at the box-office windows in 1st week.

Pad Gaye Pange recorded very weak collections in the first week everywhere.

Surya’s Saturday (dubbed) fared poorly on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and all the weekdays of the first week.

Aho! Vikramaarka (dubbed) failed to do anything worthwhile in its first week.

Alien: Romulus (dubbed and the original English versions) crashed further in the second week after a dull first week. It netted only Rs. 0.37 crore in the second weekend, and an additional Rs. 0.17 crore during the weekdays. In this way, the total for 2nd week was just Rs. 0.54 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 4.68 crore.

Stree 2 was the one-horse race in its third week too! It entered the Rs. 500-crore club in 3rd week, making it the third franchise film to do so — after Bahubali 2: The Conclusion and Gadar 2. Its third week started with a net collection of Rs. 9.25 crore. Collections almost doubled on Saturday which closed at Rs. 17.40 crore. The total for Sunday was an outstanding Rs. 22.10 crore. The third weekend’s total, therefore, was a whopping Rs. 48.75 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 7.05 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 5.65 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 5.68 crore, Thursday – Rs. 5.70 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 24.08 crore. Hence the total for the third week was an unbelievable Rs. 72.83 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 512.33 crore!!

Khel Khel Mein did well in 3rd week in the good multiplexes only, that too in the weekend mainly. It netted approximately Rs. 5.75 crore in 3rd week. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 36.10 crore.

Neta Geeta (Marathi) performed badly in its first week all over Maharashtra.

Aho! Vikramaarka (Marathi) did poor in 1st week in Maharashtra.

Fakt Purusho Maate (Gujarati) was adversely affected by heavy rains in Gujarat in 2nd week but managed fair collections in the weekend. It netted Rs. 0.28 crore on the first day of the second week. Collections doubled on Saturday (Rs. 0.57 crore) and trebled on Sunday (Rs. 0.84 crore). After a second weekend total of Rs. 1.69 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.18 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.14 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.19 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.16 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 0.67 crore. In this way, the film netted Rs. 2.36 crore in 2nd week. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 8.19 crore.

‘ROCKY AUR RANI…’ DOES WELL, ‘OPPENHEIMER’ HOLDS WELL

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani started slow last week, picked up as the day progressed, picked up further on Saturday, but the mediocre jump in collections on Sunday gave an indication that the film would not do earth-shattering business. The film seems to have become a fantastic weekend fare for the families because collections during the weekdays were very steady but at mediocre levels. It has done extremely well in high-end multiplexes and the big cities, where many people have loved the film so much that they are even repeating it, but the same is not true of the other multiplexes and single-screen cinemas, especially in smaller cities and towns. In other words, the response to the film ranges from the excellent to the ordinary. Although making profits is a foregone conclusion for the producers, thanks to the phenomenal revenues it earned from sale of digital, satellite and audio rights, the hope that the film would cross the Rs. 200-crore mark were dashed to the ground on the first day and again on Sunday. The first day’s net collection was Rs. 10 crore. Collections on Saturday totalled Rs. 15 crore. Sunday closed at Rs. 17.75 crore, taking the first weekend’s total to Rs. 42.75 crore. Collections for the weekdays were on the lower side but they were so steady on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday that the film seems to have created a new record of collections having held on so well on the last three days of the week! Collections of not even super-hits and blockbusters in all these years have maintained like the collections of RRKPP have: Monday – Rs. 6.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 6.60 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 6.15 crore, Thursday – Rs. 5.75 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 24.75 crore. In this way, the first week closed at Rs. 67.50 crore. The film is expected to fare well in the second weekend too, not just because it is a good weekend fare for the classes and families mainly but also because there is no major new Bollywood or Hollywood release this week. The first day of the second weekend closed at Rs. 6.50 crore, which is more than almost every weekday of the first week, another unusual record. All the aforementioned figures include the revenues from block bookings and bulk ticket sales. No film in the history of Hindi cinema has collected Rs. 6-plus crore on the fourth, fifth and sixth days of the first week after netting only Rs. 10 crore on the opening day. Likewise, no film has ever recorded a better first day (Friday) of the second week than the last day (Thursday) of the first week, like RRKPP has. In pure commercial terms (cost versus box-office revenues) though, this will be one of ace director Karan Johar’s weaker films.

Oppenheimer (dubbed and the original English versions) joined the Rs. 100-crore club yesterday (August 4) which was the first day of the third weekend. The two weeks’ total was just short of Rs. 100 crore. The film’s original English version held on very well in 2nd week while the dubbed Hindi version, which was already performing lower than the original version, continued to do so in the second week too. The net collection of both the versions put together on the first day of the second weekend was Rs. 4.46 crore. Collections on Saturday jumped so that the day closed at Rs. 7.45 crore. The Sunday total was Rs. 7.47 crore. In this way, the second weekend closed at Rs. 19.38 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2.62 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.44 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.38 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.19 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 9.63 crore. Hence the total for 2nd week was Rs. 29.01 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 99.06 crore.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (dubbed and the original English versions) managed to yield shares in the third week too. The third weekend started with a take of Rs. 1.20 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday and Sunday went up to Rs. 2 crore and Rs. 2.20 crore respectively. The total for the third weekend, therefore, was Rs. 5.40 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.65 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.70 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.65 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.60 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 2.60 crore. Hence the total for 3rd week was Rs. 8 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 113.15 crore.

Aanibaani (Marathi) could not do anything worthwhile in its first week all over Maharashtra.

Baipan Bhari Deva (Marathi) netted Rs. 3.25 crore in the fifth weekend and another Rs. 1 crore during the weekdays. Hence the total for 5th week was Rs. 4.25 crore. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 72.26 crore. Outstanding!!

‘RAID 2’ OPENS TO IMPRESSIVE HOUSES, ‘KESARI CHAPTER 2’ DOES WELL IN 2ND WEEK TOO

Raid 2 opened to impressive houses on Thursday (May 1), partly because of the strong brand value after the success of the first part — Raid — and partly because of the Labour Day holiday on that day. It netted Rs. 18.50 crore and although collections dropped on the second day, the fall was to the extent expected on a working second day after a holiday on the first day. Collections totalled Rs. 11.50 crore on day 2 (Friday).

The Bhootnii fared poorly on the first day (Thursday, May 1). It collected only Rs. 0.60 crore.

Thunderbolts (dubbed and the original English versions) opened quite well on Thursday (May 1), netting Rs. 3.51 crore.

Ground Zero found neither appreciation nor a sizeable audience in 1st week. It collected only Rs. 1.32 crore on the first day. Collections increased to Rs. 1.92 crore on Saturday. The total for Sunday was only Rs. 2.22 crore. After a first weekend total of Rs. 5.46 crore only, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.65 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.72 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.58 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.22 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was only Rs. 2.17 crore. Therefore, the total for 1st week was just Rs. 7.63 crore.

Phule found appreciation only from a thin section of the class audience and, therefore, fared poorly in the first week. It started the first weekend with a dull Rs. 25 lakh. Collections jumped to Rs. 43 lakh on Saturday, and increased to Rs. 57 lakh on Sunday. After a low first weekend total of Rs. 1.25 crore, collections on the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 29 lakh, Tuesday – Rs. 25 lakh, Wednesday – Rs. 20 lakh, Thursday – Rs. 13 lakh. Hence the total for the weekdays was only Rs. 87 lakh. In this way, the total for 1st week was Rs. 2.12 crore.

Until Dawn (dubbed and the original English versions) did ordinary business in the first week. It collected approximately Rs. 2.64 crore in the first weekend, and another Rs. 1.28 crore during the weekdays. Since it opened on Thursday in select cinemas in English only, the net collection for Thursday was Rs. 0.05 crore. Hence the total for the first week was Rs. 3.97 crore.

Ne Zha 2 (animation, dubbed and the original Mandarin versions) underperformed in 1st week. Despite extraordinary animation quality — probably the best one has ever seen — the film netted dull collections in its first week because of a confusing drama. It could collect only Rs. 0.80 crore in the first week.

Kesari Chapter 2 held on reasonably well, falling less than 40% in the second week. The second weekend started with a net collection of Rs. 4.05 crore. Collections on Saturday jumped to Rs. 7.20 crore. The Sunday total was Rs. 8.14 crore. After a second weekend total of Rs. 19.39 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2.65 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.72 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.80 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 9.42 crore. In this way, the second week closed at Rs. 28.81 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 75.35 crore.

Jaat did very average business in 3rd week. It collected around Rs. 2.90 crore in the third weekend, and another Rs. 1.90 crore during the weekdays. In this way, the total for 3rd week was Rs. 4.80 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 80.98 crore.

A Minecraft Movie (dubbed and the original English versions) collected about Rs. 1.10 crore in the fourth week. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 14 crore.

Devmanus (Marathi) did not fare well in the first week in Maharashtra.

Zapuk Zupuk (Marathi) did weak business in 1st week all over Maharashtra.

Halgat (Marathi) performed miserably in the first week in Maharashtra.

‘SELFIEE’ BOMBS

Selfiee cut a very sorry picture of itself at the box-office in its first week. Starting with a take of just Rs. 2 crore was a nightmare nobody had expected, considering that the film stars Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, is produced by Karan Johar, and is directed by Raj Mehta. Collections were horrifyingly poor not just on the weekdays but also in the first weekend. The film may end up its lifetime run at Rs. 12-13 crore!

Khela Hobe turned out to be a disaster in 1st week all over.

Shehzada also recorded terribly low collections all over in the second week. The film will wrap up at barely Rs. 31-32 crore!

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania (dubbed and the original English versions) dropped significantly in the second week. It started the second weekend with a net collection of only Rs. 0.98 crore. The total for Saturday was Rs. 1.94 crore. Collections on Sunday picked up only marginally so that the day closed at Rs. 2.07 crore. Therefore, the total for the second weekend was an unimpressive Rs. 4.99 crore. Collections for the weekdays were rather dull: Monday – Rs. 0.59 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.57 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.51 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.43 crore. The total for the weekdays was only Rs. 2.10 crore. In this way, the second week closed at Rs. 7.09 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 37.44 crore.

Pathaan added Rs. 8.73 crore (Hindi Rs. 8.55 crore; dubbed Rs. 0.18 crore) to its kitty in 5th week. The film netted Rs. 5.60 crore (Hindi Rs. 5.50 crore; dubbed Rs. 0.10 crore) in the fifth weekend, and another Rs. 3.13 crore (Hindi Rs. 3.05 crore; dubbed Rs. 0.08 crore) during the weekdays. The total for 5 weeks has, therefore, reached Rs. 528.89 crore (Hindi Rs. 510.65 crore; dubbed Rs. 18.24 crore). The Hindi version’s total of Rs. 510.65 crore makes Pathaan the biggest domestic blockbuster in Hindi as it has surpassed the lifetime all-India collection total of Rs. 510 crore of the Hindi dubbed version of Bahubali 2: The Conclusion.
