‘AAPDI THAAPDI’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 7 October, 2022

K Silent Productions’ Aapdi Thaapdi (Marathi) is the story of a miser. Sakharam Patil (Shreyas Talpade) is a miser who lives in the village. Rather than taking his little ailing goat to a doctor, he takes it to the city for free treatment. But he abandons the little goat in the city on the railway platform and escapes with his friend when he senses that they might be arrested for ticketless travel. After a few days, the railway authorities decide to auction the little goat. Sakharam and his sworn enemy, Yuvraj (Navin Prabhakar), reach the city to bid for the goat, but before the goat can be bought by either of them, Sakharam has to reveal the truth about the little goat to the railway people. What happens thereafter?

Sunila Anand Karir and Anand Arun Karir have written a story which offers no excitement to the audience. Their screenplay is also so devoid of thrill that the audience is left wondering why the script was even written in the first place. The light scenes fail to evoke laughter. The duo’s dialogues are as weak as their story and screenplay.

Shreyas Talpade performs very ably in the role of Sakharam Patil. Mukta Barve is good as his wife, Parvati, but she gets limited scope. Sandeep Pathak does well as Sakharam’s friend, Damu. Nandu Madhav is alright as ticket collector Dayanand Pagare. Navin Prabhakar (who has the image of a comedian) has been miscast in a negative role (Yuvraj). However, his acting is okay. Baby Khushi Hazare lends reasonable support as Sakharam’s little daughter, Tulsi. Ruturaj Shinde is adequate as make-up artiste Ganesh.

Anand Arun Karir’s direction is commonplace. Except for the title song (which is average), music (by Anand Bhaskar, Hasn and Rohan-Vinayak) is a letdown. Guru Thakur’s lyrics hardly impress. Rohan-Vinayak’s background music barely passes muster. Suman Sahu’s cinematography is ordinary. Production designing (Satish Dattatray Gawali) hardly deserves separate mention. Vaibhav Parab’s editing leaves something to be desired.

On the whole, Aapdi Thaapdi is a disaster.
