If year 2021 ended on a sad note for the film trade with the year’s last release, Jersey, being cancelled just three days before the scheduled date, the new year has also not started on a good note. The first release of 2022 — RRR — also stands cancelled.
The producers of the highly anticipated film, which was to release in different languages on Friday, announced this evening (1st January, 2022) that it will not be able to keep its date with the public in view of the growing Coronavirus cases in the country and the consequent precautionary steps being taken by various state governments including complete shutdown of cinemas by the Delhi administration and seating capacity restrictions imposed in Tamil Nadu. Of course, in view of the uncertainty surrounding the surge in cases, a new date of release for RRR has not been announced.
It is now feared that other producers will follow the examples of Jersey and RRR, and postpone the release of their films too.
