‘CHHORII 2’ REVIEW | 11 April, 2025

T-Series Films, Abundantia Entertainment and Psych Production’s Chhorii 2 (A) is the story of a mother who has to save her daughter from a superstitious cult while fighting societal malpractices.

Sakshi (Nushrat Bharucha) lives with her 7-year-old daughter, Ishaani (Hardika Sharma), in police inspector Samar’s (Gashmeer Mahajani) house. Since Ishaani is allergic to sunlight, she has to remain confined indoors till night. Sakshi’s husband, Rajbir (Saurabh Goyal), lives in the village. Rajbir’s third wife, Rani (Pallavi Ajay), also lives with Sakshi who is Rajbir’s fourth wife. One day, Ishaani is kidnapped by Rajbir. The village head, Tau (Kuldeep Sareen), has actually asked Rajbir to hand over Ishaani to Pradhaan ji (Arvind Jaiswal) as the latter suffers from the same ailment as Ishaani. Pradhaan ji lives in a cave which is inside a dry well in the village. Before Ishaani, Dasi Maa (Soha Ali Khan) used to look after Pradhaan ji. Dasi Maa suffers from the same ailment as Pradhaan ji and Ishaani. Is Sakshi able to save Ishaani? What happens to Sakshi, Rajbir, Ishaani, Dasi Maa and Rani?

Vishal Furia and Ajit Jagtap have penned a story which is not very interesting or even intriguing although it pretends to be both. The intrigue quotient in the screenplay (also written by the duo) is so low that it just doesn’t create an impact. The track of the allergy to sunlight is unpalatable if only because so many people (three) seem to be suffering from the uncommon disorder. Since the proceedings take just about any twist or turn, it is not even possible for the viewers to guess what’s in store — something so necessary to have their attention or to involve them. The climax is dull. Divya Prakash Dubey and Muktesh Mishra’s dialogues are nothing to shout about.

Nushrat Bharucha performs ably as Sakshi. Soha Ali Khan is good as Dasi Maa. Saurabh Goyal is fair in the role of Rajbir. Gashmeer Mahajani is okay as police inspector Samar. Hardika Sharma has her moments as Ishaani. Pallavi Ajay is so-so as Rani. Kuldeep Sareen lends average support as Tau. Siddiqui Afifa and Imtiyazul Hasan are average as Shaleen. Arvind Jaiswal is ordinary in the role of Pradhaan ji. Shyam Gopal (as the principal) and the rest fit the bill.

Vishal Furia’s direction is so-so. Adrija Gupta and Rob Della Fortuna’s background music is okay. Anshul Chobey’s cinematography is alright. Ajay Thakur’s action and stunt scenes lack thrill. Sheetal Duggal’s production designing, and Hemant Kumar’s art direction are passable. Abhishek S. Ojha’s editing leaves something to be desired.

On the whole, Chhorii 2 is not an entertaining fare and will, therefore, go as it has come — without fanfare.
