M & S Films, Flamingo Films, Entertainment Films LLP and Gauri Films’ Faactory (A) is the story of obsessive love. Yash (Faisal Khan) loves Natasha (Roaleey Ryan) to the extent of obsession and madness. He used to be her teacher in college. However, Natasha was unaware of Yash’s obsession because he had never professed his love to her. Natasha gets married to Rahul (Ribhu Mehra) who dies soon thereafter. Yash now emerges on the scene, stalks and ultimately kidnaps Natasha. He wants to marry her. Does Natasha agree?
Faisal Khan, Amit Gupta and Maryam have written an apology of a story and screenplay. The writing looks like the job of a novice and, therefore, the drama fails miserably to engage the viewers. For one, it is not even clear when Yash fell in love with Natasha. Was it during the time he used to teach her or was it later? It is also not clear why he did not express his love to her if he was so madly in love with her? When he kidnaps her, she suddenly starts addressing him by his first name while in college, she is shown to be addressing him as “Sir”. What’s more, Yash’s behaviour is more like a lunatic than an obsessive lover. Obviously, the inspiration of the script is Darr but this looks like a soulless copy of the hit film. Yash breaking into old Bollywood hit songs doesn’t add much to the drama; it, in fact, serves to irritate the audience because one has seen characters breaking into old hit songs in several earlier films. In the climax, Natasha’s main aim is to escape from Yash’s clutches but even when she has that chance, she tries to get even with him rather than running for dear life. Before that also, she tries to escape at a time when even a kid would not take the risk! It is scenes like the above, which give the audience the impression that the script is indeed very poor. The dialogues, penned by the same trio, are below the mark.
Faisal Khan doesn’t quite impress as a hero. He has not been photographed too well. Roaleey Ryan is ordinary as Natasha. Raj Kumar Kanojia irritates to the core as Tommy. Ribhu Mehra is so-so in a brief role as Rahul. Sharad Singh (as Bhalla) is dull. Sharif Khan lends average support as Natasha’s driver.
Like the half-baked script, Faisal Khan’s direction is also poor. Music (Salim Sen Sadik Sen, Bubbles Music and Aslam Keyi) is alright. A couple of songs have fair tunes. Lyrics (Jamil Ahmed, Shadab Akhtar, Shabeer Kashmiri, Asrar Ansari and Naeem) are ordinary. Choreography (Lollypop and Sudama Minz) is functional, at best. Shekhar Singh’s background music is routine. Mohsin Khan Pathan’s cinematography is alright. Action scenes and stunts (Hanif Shaikh and Irfan Khan) lack thrill. Nazir Shaikh’s sets are routine. Sunil Yadav’s editing is fair.
On the whole, Faactory is a poor show all the way and will flop at the ticket-windows.
