Raywings Entertainment’s Marudhar Express (UA) is designed as a comedy.
Marudhar (Kunal Roy Kapoor) is a dull young man who has just two friends and hardly any ambitions, likes, dislikes or preferences. At his workplace also, he speaks minimally. He has been raised by his father, Ashok Pandey (Rajesh Sharma), since he was just nine years old as his mother had passed away then. Ashok Pandey is just the opposite of his son. He loses no opportunity in wooing his maid and is also fond of watching porn.
One day, Ashok Pandey coaxes Marudhar to consider marriage. After Marudhar and Chitra (Tara Alisha Berry) approve of one another, their marriage is solemnised in a jiffy because Pandey tells his son that if he didn’t get married, he wouldn’t get anything from his wealth. Once the two get married, Pandey asks Marudhar to father a child as soon as possible since he is keen to have a grandchild. Once again, Pandey gives his son the property carrot so that Marudhar would make his wife conceive fast. Towards this end, he sends Marudhar and Chitra on their honeymoon as he is sure, the shy Marudhar wouldn’t do a thing otherwise.
On their honeymoon, Chitra meets her ex-boyfriend, Manish (Vikram Salahkar). This spoils matters as Marudhar assumes that his wife is still having an affair with her ex-boyfriend. The couple cuts short the honeymoon and returns. While Marudhar comes back to his home, Chitra goes to her parental home. She tells her parents that she’s pregnant. The parents convey the good news to Ashok Pandey. When Marudhar learns of Chitra’s pregnancy, he assumes that her ex-boyfriend may have impregnated her. He confronts Chitra. What is the truth about Chitra’s pregnancy?
Soon, Marudhar is pleasantly surprised to know something about Chitra and her ex-boyfriend. What is that? Do Chitra and Marudhar come together again?
Does Ashok Pandey give anything to Marudhar from his wealth?
Vishal Mishra’s story is silly, and that’s putting it mildly. It seems as if he had a one-line thought or not even that, and decided to make a film based on it. His screenplay is pathetic. Nothing in the drama really leads to anything substantial because there is precious little to convey. In fact, the writer is clueless about what he wants to say. Comedy is feeble. Romance is conspicuous by its absence. Vishal Mishra’s dialogues are dull.
Kunal Roy Kapur does fairly well as Marudhar. Tara Alisha Berry is alright in the role of Chitra. Rajesh Sharma performs quite decently when he is not overacting. As Marudhar’s two friends, Saurabh Awasthi and Gaurav Dixit lend routine support. Vikram Salahkar, playing Chitra’s ex-boyfriend, is so-so.
Vishal Mishra’s direction is as poor as his script. With nothing worthwhile to convey, it’s understandable that his narration is dull. Jeet Ganguli’s music in a couple of songs is okay but the rest of the songs barely pass muster. Lyrics (by Vishal Mishra, Manoj Muntashir and Rashmi Virag) are routine. Sujit Kumar’s choreography is average. A.K.M. Sebastian’s camerawork is ordinary. Art direction (by Sugriv Vishwakarma) hardly deserves separate mention. Ballu Saluja’s editing should have been sharper.
On the whole, Marudhar Express will be a non-starter and will be rejected by the paying public. Released on 5-7-’19 at Movie Star (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Sunshine Studios. Publicity & opening: very poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak everywhere.
